What games are you playing currently?

Tried the BF6 beat and I don't know I bother...

Battlefield 6 is Call of Duty with tanks. It's simply a Call of Duty game with a Battlefield skin. Spawn - engaged in battle straight away and respawn at the pace of a COD game. Battlefield games are meant to be more than this.

Battlefield and COD might as well merge. Awful small/linear designed maps - Movement spamming, sponge damage. Everything is forced to be played as break neck speeds. Designed for this ADHD generation of streamers who have ruined gaming.

Social Media influencers have destroyed FPS genre. They get paid to push narratives that the companies want and the end result is Call of Duty & Battlefield being clones of themselves. BF6 isn't Battlefield because these kids don't know the history of the franchise. They believe everything should be a clone of everything else.

This is partly why I don't even play live-service multiplayer games these days. In the end, they all feel the same. They're all very derivative. This from someone who used to play the original Battlefield way back when. I feel like companies chasing the live-service trend are chasing their tails, and it's why so many end up failing spectacularly.

It doesn't help that the market is so saturated with them, all of them trying to get the attention of COD and Battlefield players, but the reality is that if you aren't COD or Battlefield, then you're failing miserably.

Would much rather have a unique single-player FPS rather than any live-service shooter any day. When Marathon was announced, for example, I was intrigued until it was revealed it would be another live-service shooter. That just seems like such a waste of potential to turn a classic FPS IP into a lifeless live-service product, an IP that deserves much more than that. I much prefer unique experiences even if I only play them once over anything bland and derivative.

I went back to a classic I haven't played in a long time. I've sunk a few hours into The Outer Worlds. It's a classic as far as I am concerned, but not nearly as funny as its creators think it is but some of that humour is just plain dark, very dark, as your protagonists navigates this ultra, ultra capitalist space civilisation.

For those of you that have played it and the two DLC what did you think?

I was sorely disappointed with it *but* I played it when it first came out and my expectations were super high bc of all the New Vegas comparisons. Obsidian was back at it and I was too hyped. I need to play it again w/the dlc and updates.

Madden NFL 26 on Xbox Series X/S. More of the same old, same old. New things, new things that are broken and new things that break legacy features. What a time to be alive.

I loved it, played it through twice. My wife struggled with it when it first released, she has just now went back to it and is enjoying it.

I mean, there's a cheerful optimistic tone to it throughout, and combine that with how colourful the game is as compared to Fallout, it's a breath of fresh air. I think it has a whimsical nature to it even while maintaining a dark subject.

Cheerful tone yes but when you look deeper. Like housing they provide has fake windows, hence all the ads for faux windows you see in the game. People outside your home see a nice happy home but that's not the reality of what living in one of those houses is like, that the company provides. That's just one example. and the whole intro scene itself spells it out. It's bleak

Oh, that. Well yeah, but I still find it's not as bleak as Fallout. The difference is in the presentation, with Fallout being bleak in just about every way, and at least Fallout 4 introduced a more colourful palette. The Outer Worlds has many ways where they balance out the feel.
