What games are you playing currently?

I'm still working on Horizon Zero Dawn. Main story wise, I just discovered what the Zero Dawn protocol was  When I bought this game 5 years ago, I was thinking "Damn, what a goofy name for a game." Now, I know what it means :(

I've done the bulk of the side quests and have all trophies except for the last four story mission trophies, the secret armor in the bunker trophy and the platinum. I didn't have much of a problem with the hunting grounds trophy (got most of the blazing suns on the first try), but holy HELL the corrupted zone trophy was annoying (specifically fighting the corrupted Rockbreakers  )

Corrupted rockbreakers are a pain in the ass....... But if you hop into the river you can shoot them from the other side of the river and they won't get you if that helps for future replays.

You know, admittedly, I was never too fond of Horizon Zero Dawn's combat. Great story, yes, but I found the combat a little overly complicated for my liking. I was never much of a good shot with the bow as its main weapon, and I hated the weakpoint mechanic, and I often felt the combat got a little too frenetic. But I plugged along because of the story and I wanted to see where it went.

I'm enjoying my time with Forbidden West but the story feels a bit disjointed...
Which makes the main story feel light and barren...
But in so many ways it's a technically better game...
Each Cauldron is different and trying to get on top of the Tallnecks is very varried...
The combat is expanded, with special skills like notching multiple arrows...

Poor Terry!

I'm playing through Jedi Fallen Order. I know it's technically supposed to be a souls-like, but I feel it has many flaws that go directly against that philosophy. For example, the long load times, leading to not wanting to explore and risk it so much. Then there are the stupid deaths from the wonky platforming. There have been so many times I've died from not aligning an opening properly that I'm supposed to jump through, only to find myself jumping into the void instead. And the vines can be so difficult to line up properly when you're swinging, and sometimes for whatever reason, you still wind up short from your objective. So, I dropped the difficulty down to story mode, and it becomes a far more enjoyable game. No longer do I have to worry about the long load times so much anymore. Falling into the voice no longer reduces health, a punishment that should never have been in there in the first place given the wonky platforming. I feel like I can explore without having to worry about an unseemly death anymore, and I can take my time to find the best path towards my objective more easily.

Very rarely do I have to drop the difficulty on a game (I normally play on Normal or Hard), but Jedi Fallen Order I had to put down to story mode and it definitely became more enjoyable not dying constantly and suffering through long loading screens :)

I probably did something stupid, but I picked up my first From Software game, Elden Ring.

I have a feeling the game wasn't originally going to be a souls-like. It feels so much like a last-minute design decision and the game immediately feels better when dropping it down. And it's not like it isn't still a challenge when doing so either.

Elden Ring came out of everywhere at me. I'm officially old. I don't know what people are playing now, until everyone is playing it. But yeah, i don't like games that difficult, not anymore.

I don't mind difficult games, as long as they're well designed. The recent God of War was quite difficult, but was also quite satisfying and was quite well designed overall, so the difficulty felt quite natural. To contrast that, something like Jedi Fallen Order feels like the difficulty is tacked on rather than designed from the ground up to be taken into account. Everything at the regular difficulty mode feels dispiriting rather than enticing due to how save points are handled, how enemies respawn, along with the fall damage and janky platforming, which are all easier to deal with at a lower difficulty.

Fallen Order has some ridiculously difficult platforming in the later parts of the game. It's that the gameplay mechanics don't quite come together fluidly like they should and end up making things way harder than they should be, like this long wallrunning traversal on Kaskyyyk where you also have to force jump to keep yourself high enough to keep traversing. I had to keep redoing that over 15 times while my hands were cramping up. Then on Dathomir, there's one place where you have to pull down these platforms to wallrun on, and you have a very limited window of time before they go back up, and that one also took me a long time with cramped hands before I made it, and I'd probably give up in frustration if I wasn't on storymode.

I got the Platinum trophy for Horizon Zero Dawn last night. I really enjoyed that game. I'm going to jump straight into the Frozen Wilds DLC. Maybe even do the New Game + and try to get the trophy for beating it on Ultra Hard.

I was thinking about trying out Elden Ring, but I may jump straight from the Frozen Wilds and start Forbidden West.

HZD was one of the best concepts-to-realization I have seen in a game. I loved it.
I definitely want to try Forbidden West but I have splurged on myself this year with a synthesizer I can't really justify. I have saved up money for an operation I need and also my kids graduation. After I get those things taken care of, that will probably be my next big game purchase. meanwhile I am enjoying the occasional replays of stuff I already have.

Just finished Metroid Dread. Except for the EMMIs that was a great game. Why isn’t Nintendo this willing to make actual hard games in their other IPs?

Bioshock Infinite on a Ryzen 3 laptop and it manages to run well at native 1080p on high settings. I was surprised my little machine wouldn't be able to do this one but it's handling the game really well. It's an AMD Ryzen 3 325OU laptop with 20gig ram and Nvme drive.

This game kind of sucks because it feels very, very linear and forces you down a path, you can't explore areas as much as you think you should be able to and the story is bullshit.

One of the devs said part of the point of Bioshock Infinite was the concept that despite having infinite possibilities the character was more or less fated to whatever was chosen for him. The wins point that out to him along the way several times. I would have loved to have had a version of the game where you just get to walk around and enjoy Columbia before "you" realize how horrible it is underneath the surface.

What do you think of the post credits scene?

I think the Dev was talking out of his fucking arse and what post credits scene? I never stuck around the first time I played to see that when I had the game on steam. I recently closed my steam account and have dropped all my social media and now it's only a local reddit group form where I live and imgur for posting photos.
