What games are you playing currently?

A couple of hours into Mass Effect Andromeda, and I am not really sold on the game yet. I am now on Eos and don't find that planet very interesting
It depends on what you look for. If it's plot and story, then I'd recommend doing the bare minimum in terms of viability and just pushing ahead. You can always come back later. It's kinda like DAI's 'get out of the Hinterlands' thing, except it's almost all Hinterlands...

I always play for plot and storyline, It's why I loved the Mass Effect trilogy, except the last 15 min of 3.
I haven't played DAI but it doesn't sound good

What I meant by that distinction is that some people are as invested in the mechanics as the plot, in which case Andromeda's combat mechanics offer a lot of options to explore, so it's perfectly possible to Skyrim it and just ignore the plot to go run around, kill things, level up and grab loot (most of which you'll break down for crafting materials.)
The story itself isn't *bad*, but the size of the game can make it feel a bit aimless at times and if I'm honest, the companions are very hit and miss. One in particular I can't stand and not in an engaging, fun "love to hate" way, in a "why isn't there an option to fire this nonce!?" way.

DAI is a wonderful game, arguably up there with ME2 in terms of balancing story, gameplay, and a good cast of characters. The thing that tripped people up a lot was that the first big open map was HUGE and they'd get bogged down trying explore it all and do all the piddling side-quests before moving on with the plot when, really you're supposed to come back and do that in increments across the course of the whole first half of the game, hence: "get out of the hinterlands!" It's not my favourite Dragon Age game, but it may be the best one overall.

Was going to try the Madden 21 demo from EA Pass, but I’m not allowed to play because their servers are down. Stellar as usual, EA.

Picked up Assassin's Creed Valhalla at the Nacogdoches GameStop yesterday, started it today.

First achievement unlocked, "The Saga Begins" (complete the Prologue)!

So, I finished up Shenmue 2 a few days ago, and was kind of disappointed that it just kind of ended. I was expecting some sort of confrontation at the end. Guess that happens in Shenmue 3 which was recently released.

Then I started up Yakuza 0, and this game is crazy! This is the first game in the series I've played and it seems like it's going to be quite a lot of fun.

That's how I usually play open world games, I'll do a couple side missions/quests, then do a story mission, then do a couple more side missions/questions, and then another story mission, and repeat until I'm done.

That can be a bit tricky with Bioware games since they tend to have soft timers and points of no return, which they're pretty bad at telegraphing. For example, ME2 has a soft timer that triggers unavoidable story missions, and an event late in the game where if you haven't done all the side material, trying to finish it all up before what is clearly a point-of-no-return it can have dire plot consequences. Similarly, if you charge ahead you're likely to miss a very important loyalty mission. Even worse is ME3 where the missions labelled "priority" are the ones that trigger plot advancement and taking them early can lock out side-quests and even kill major characters...and you can't know that ahead of time unless you've already played.

I'm kind of a completionist (I literally just spent 2 hrs replaying the Omega DLC to get a buggy achievement to stay unlocked this time!) so my usual thing is to do as much as I can before advancing the plot any further, but in an open world that can mean *hours* of gameplay with little or no plot and I totally get how people can easily get bored of that.

When I played Andromeda, I held off triggering what I thought might be the final mission for like two weeks while I ran around every planet, turning over every stone, gathering as much crafting goodies as possible. It made me really appreciate the combat system, but also exposed how samey all the planets were from a gameplay perspective once you get past the aesthetics.

I installed an Amiga emulator on my Windows 10 PC so I could play through the old games I had from the 90s Amiga days and it's not difficult to do. My favourites were Escape From Colditz and Syndicate. Also Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge And Nitro which were both two player driving games so very popular at parties in the early 90s. Brings back memories playing them and shows just how good an Amiga was in its day. Amazing to think the RAM was just 500k and a 500k memory upgrade to make the RAM 1Mb opened it up to a lot of new games.

Forgot Shadow Of The Beast II and pretty much anything else by Psygnosis. I wasn't that keen on Lemmings though as it soon got repetitive. Monkey Island and Leisure Suit Larry were very witty games but I never had the patience. That and I was living at home so was soon told to go to bed and would lose all progress.

Since PC days I've liked shooters like Project IGI and Deus Ex but also strategic games like Company Of Heroes and simulators like FS2004 and the SSTSIM Concorde addon. Digitally recorded sounds of real Concorde engines is one of the best features. I went from the inbuilt Concorde of FS98 to the Altitude Software version of Concorde with FS2002 and finally the SSTSIM version for FS2004. I know there are much newer versions out there and one day....

SWAT 4 and the expansion is something I always have installed so I can load it up but the two games I play the most are Oblivion and Call Of Pripyat. Two very different but enjoyable games with a shed load of mods for them.

My PC died a few weeks ago so no gaming for a while but hope to get it up and running again in a few months.

I just bought Everspace on impulse as it was under 7 dollars .. Anyone played that, can I get some thoughts on your experiences?

Crackdown 3 via Game Pass on the Xbox One S.

Fun (I like blowing shit up), though extremely similar to the first game. In all honesty, it looks like it could run on an Xbox 360.

It's also in the Windows store. But not sure if you have to have a console to buy it on pc

Yeah, there have been a few times I've missed out on a side mission because of when I decided to do the next story mission.

I got my PS5 today. First I played some Astro's Playroom while Spider-Man: Miles Morales was downloading. And now I'm playing that.

I started playing Prey2017 again.. I last played this a couple of years ago but now want to have another go with this, was fun back then and still is fun now.

Did I mention I got a Valve Index? Half-Life: Alyx was the most amazing gaming experience of my life. The tech isn't quite there yet, but otherwise there isn't a fault. The best game since Super Mario 64.

Currently playing Boneworks, which isn't as good, the movement makes me travel sick but the combat is amazingly fun. Using a trashcan lid to hold off zombies with one hand while bonking them on the head with a hammer with the other. What an age we live in.

That's good to know. I picked it up cheap at Walmart, for like $15 a few months ago. I've yet to get to it, but I've heard good things.

I'm currently playing Yakuza 0 on PC, and it's my first one in the series, and I really didn't know what to think at first. Took me awhile to get in the groove.

Oh glad you scored a bargain there with prey, not sure how much it is on steam as I bought mine shortly after it was released.
