What games are you playing currently?

great- 60% through Tomb Raider Anniversary on the 360, and *now* it turns out that the fucking disc is borked. Which I bought about five or six weeks back. Half the time it goes "disc is unreadable, clean it with a soft cloth", and the other half it just locks up, always at the same checkpoint. Fuck knows where the receipt is, and who'd fucking accept a change that late anyway?

You never see people note that that's a problem with games - with a CD or DVD or whatever, you can skip through all the tracks or chapters, and see that it works all the way, but with a game it could be ages before you get to the fucked bit.

So, that's £7 I'll never get back for half a fucking game I'll never fucking finish, and Amazon is still asking £38 for it, so fuck that.

Have you tried installing it?

I'm going to try that tonight.

ETA- tried it, it got to about 25% then told me the disc couldn't be read. Fuck.

Damn that sucks.

Just bought Assassin's Creed 4 on the PS4. They're doing a decent deal right now. £17.99 for PS+ subscribers on the PS3 then £10 to upgrade it. Best price anywhere I've seen.

Some stores will let you do an exchange even without a receipt (just not a refund).

Anyway, that's one reason I like the new trend of cloud-enabled games like Steam and Battle.net: just enter the serial number off the box, and you're allowed to download a fresh copy.

That's a risk you take when you buy used. I've had several games in the past that refused to work after X number of hours. Just buy another copy of the game and continue from where you were -- you'll still be ahead in money.

They only had the one. I'll have to keep an eye out in general, but it took a good couple of years before I found that one...

If it's a disc fault, not a scratch (in other words: not your fault), send it in and you get a replacement. I had that discussion when I bought the James Bond blu ray box. What if I notice that there are problems with the Casino Royale disc 20 weeks after I bought the box? Same thing goes for games as well.

picked up assassin's creed 2, brotherhood, and revelations for about 6 bucks a piece on the U-Play store. Going through two now.
Have fun, amazing games.

I wish they would combine all three parts for some sort of Special Edition, so that you could travel between all the cities.
Im rather surprised with how much I'm enjoying AC2. I picked up AC1 for cheap years ago and finally started playing it since I got a free download for AC4 with my new video card. The game was rather annoying and I decided to just watch the last third of it on YouTube. AC2 is a remarkable step up.

Oh yeah, they should put stickers on it: Start with AC2, don't bother with AC1.
You don't even need to know it to understand the sequels.

One really felt like an unfinished tech demo 2 is where it came in to its own. Just started 4. Enjoying it so far but only up to the title card.

Arkham Origins on the PS3. Also want to get back into Room on the IPad and follow it with Room 2. And then there's the proverbial shedload of games on Steam that I've abandoned, not really started, or pre-ordered. That includes pretty much all of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead, although on the strength of the first episode I would heartily recommend it.

Recently finished The Last Of Us. Narratively, design-wise and in terms of production quality, this is one of the best-realised games I've ever played, gaming as a respectable art form.

I am doing some retro gaming at present with the original xbox, even managed to get a component cable to allow the xbox to run game at 480p or 720p, which i can tell you makes all the diffrence, Project gotham 2, Forza, all the Burnout games, great machine.

And what a utter joy to drop a game in and play, no sign in, no season pass, no dlc smacking you in the face to buy in game, just pure gaming fun, as it use to be. :D

I bought "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition" on Steam a couple of weeks ago. I already played the original game, so I was really looking forward to a polished version with modern graphics and new characters. Well, the graphic still looks like the original one from 1998, just with a higher resolution. Furthermore, the Enhanced Edition made very little changes to the original version and the game is a bit buggy. That being said, I'm feeling nostalgic, enjoy the few new characters and have a lot of fun. And boy, I completely forgot how hard the game was :D.

In addition, I just finished "Broken Sword 5". This is one of the few Projects that I backed on Kickstarter.

Apart from that I didn't have much time this year to play, so there are games piling up on my desk. I'm looking forward to Max Payne 3 and the two Batman games as well.

After being unable to get into PC gaming for years due to a crappy laptop, I've been discovering the classic of last-gen for cheap via Steam and Amazon holiday offers. I finished Arkham Asylum this morning, and am just starting BioShock. Also playing Skyrim, Borderlands, Bully, Fez, and Scribblenauts Unlimited off and on.

I'm going back to XCOM tomorrow.

Also I started out a popular Mario 64 hack called Star Road. It's awesome so far, easily the best fanhack I've ever played.

Well, got Assassin's Creed 3 & 4 and Saint's Row 4 for Xmas, so they'll go on the list to play next - already gave SR4 a whirl just to get to the character customisation stage...
