What established Trek character should be made a series regular in season2 of "Discovery" if needed?

But what if the new actor is a great singer. They could get one of the kids from "Glee" who I imagine is still young enough to play a cadet age character.

No singing. I've heard "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" enough for three lifetimes.

There are two obvious choices that come to mind

You know it's got to happen at some point! It is the only way to explain why the prime timeline looks so different.

You know they could also use Phlox and the same actor as well. Nobody knows what the lifespan of a Denobiulan is. Maybe Shran as well because i'm not sure if their lifespans are well known as well. You got that Cogley guy who was Kirk's lawyer. In fact it might have been neat if he had been Burnham's lawyer at her trial.

Montgomery Scott might be good- he wouldn't know it all yet and we don't think he was with the Enterprise this early.
Was thinking Daniels but someone beat me to it.
Was also thinking Dax, which could be interesting as Trill aren't widely known about in this time.
Perhaps Kor if they could find someone to play him with something close to John Colicos' gravitas. It would be glorious!

I think knowledge of the slug could be dismissed. I think that the series is pushing a vision in which the level of integration within the Federation is quite limited. We're at this point in which Star Fleet is not being regarded as the premiere scientific uniformed service.

Having a Dax, as well as a Kor, as you have suggested, might be interesting because it could help position the series towards the Khitomer Accords. We have a main character who is distrustful of Klingons from childhood, perhaps we can have characters who will either (1) temper that distrust or (2) be affected by it, looking to peal it back in the future.

Considering all the shit the poor timeline has been through in the past few iterations of Trek, I think they're lucky to even have a Federation in 2256:lol:
