what episode/moral/quote influenced you the most from TOS

"Moral"?
I feel nauseous.

Drink some Pepto-Bismol, then! Better yet, don't read or post in these threads! That'll cure ya!

One of my favorite MORALS was Kirk's observation in "A Taste of Armaggedon," when he recalls how the two sides in the 500-year war had made it antiseptic, and that when faced with a real war, he gambled they'd do anything to stop it, because, "war is a messy business. A very messy business."

For me, it was the feeling of hope in the future the show imparted. In real life in the 60s and 70s we were living in the nuclear age and the doomsday clock was clicking steadily towards oblivion. This show demonstrated humanity getting past that point and surviving the insanity.

A lot of people talk about the influence the show had on scientific areas (technology, medicine) with all the futuristic gadgetry (communicators, replicators, transporters, etc.) but when I stop to think about it, I wonder if it's the concept of IDIC that really made an impact on us, nerds or not.

Sometimes I wonder if Star Trek may have saved the world.

^When I was a kid/teen we lived near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In school we had fire drills, tornado drills and nuclear fallout drills. Yes, we learned what to do if the base was attacked with nuclear weapons... how to find a fallout shelter, how far we could be from one and still survive, etc.
It really was an uncertain time. Star Trek gave hope that maybe, just maybe the human race could survive into the future.
