What DON’T you like about the show?

I do think it’s too goofy to be “real” in the Trek universe. But I don’t sweat continuity much, and I’d rather they err on the side of goofy than ugly, as Kurtzman Trek sometimes does. Silly as it is, this feels like proper Star Trek to me.
I finally understand where people were coming from when they would say that Enterprise is in an alternate timeline.

I don't like the fast talking characters (particularly Mariner). Even the pace is sometimes too fast. Maybe this is a normal thing for cartoons but it would be better if they slowed down the pace a little and have characters talk in normal tones.

Episode 3 was a slight improvement in this area so maybe they are moving in this direction.

Well, here are my two cents:

The drawing style:
-Boims nose looks like a wiener hanging from his face - I just can't get over that
-Some things are shown very detailed, some are almost like childrens scribbling - confusing to me
-Motions of people are almost anime style - but it is not anime

The stories:
-while I like the fact that there is an A and a B story, the 20min frame is too short for me to get invested with the people living through them
-humor seems to be drawn alot from humiliation, pain and slapstick situations - not my kind of humor
-the people (escpecially the captain) act like narrow-minded, jealous, two-dimensional slobs. To me, Star Trek should show me how people are better in the future. If I want to see the same people that are around now, I turn on the news.
-Parenting should be a lot different in the future, with Holodeck and ships counselors and computers to speak to. Handling a child on her own ship like that is unbecoming of a captain in the 24th century. Even if it is overdrawn because it is a "comedy". And sorry, did Daddy drop his daughter at Mom's because he didn't want to deal with her?

I think that a Starfleet crew that fails so often (did they run from the Borg? Like P'takh?) should be devided up onto different ships to water the fail level down. Putting them all on one ship is how I experience today's worklife. All 'idiots' end up with the same department, because the other departments don't want them but have stronger leaders.

So - it is not for me. Tried, did not work out, now I am out. I won't watch another Ep. But when you enjoy it please do so, these are just my personal thoughts.

Can you name a specific scene where something looks like a “children's scribbling”? I'm really curious to know.

Didn't they outright say they decided to see if Mariner on the Cerritos works out?

This is a big one for me. I’ve noticed this a lot in all the recent Treks. I know it’s kind of unrealistic to expect humans to change too much in four hundred years but they will change a little. I don’t expect (or want) them to act like 20th century humans - I’ve had enough of 20th century humans. I don’t want them in my escapism. Star Trek has always been special to me because it not like other shows.

I've not seen ep 4 yet, but what made the TNG episode such a good one was that Riker, Troi, Worf and Geordi were all decent to the ensigns. It's a fine line but I hope they don't go down the route of making the senior officers be abusive or unkind to the lower decks. The captain towards Mariner is a special case though.

.

This is one of the things that bugs me the most about Lower Decks. I simply find it irritating to listen to. It's as if all the characters drank way too much coffee, or alternatively have cocaine problems. My blood pressure rises watching the show.

One can argue "But it's a cartoon!" -- but none of the Star Wars animated shows were like that, nor was Tron: Uprising. Though I never got into those, either, and I was genuinely excited for T:U following Legacy. I guess I have to opt out of the animation thing all together.

I wonder if the fast paced dialogue is in part due to the episodes being only about 25 minutes.

(This is something I have an issue with in general about showe airing exclusively online. If you are not constrained by a certain time format, take full advantage of it! Not saying an episode has to be 80 minutes just to be that way, but 25 is really short, despite it being a cartoon.)

I don't like when the humor is based on the incompetency of the characters. I think it's funnier, and more Star Treky, when the characters are super competent and enthusiastic about their jobs.
