What do you want to see in Star Trek 4?

A movie about New Vulcan would be interesting... Settling on a new planet with all the dangers and difficulties there... Maybe they find Kirk's dad there... ;-)

Did that with Beyond. People didn't show up.
Beyond did not have less action and more story.

Beyond had a negligible amount of extra character development.

Beyond was not thought provoking.

However, Beyond could have had all those and still not done any extra business. It might have been cheaper though, and thus more profitable.

What I want in next Trek movie:

  • Same cast (sadly, can't have all of them).
  • '09/STiD uniforms (won't happen, but the question is what I want, not what I expect to see).
  • More lens flares (ducks ). I never had a problem with them in the other movies and, to be honest, I kind of missed them in Beyond.
  • No re-cast of Chekov (next reboot--sure, but not with this gang).
  • No other Starfleet interactions--be truly out "in the final frontier".
  • the return of Jaylah

I leave the rest to the professionals (I entertain no illusions that I could write an effective story/screenplay).

I say no to time travel. It's been way overdone in ST and all the alternate reality stuff likely made the non-initiateds heads spin in ST 09.

I'd like to see a Klingon villain, hopefully a great one like Kor or General Chang. Making it focus on a 1x1 duel with a bird of prey like someone else suggested would be a great idea, or at least building the second or third act around that and having a more expansive story for the rest of it.. A bigger budget Balance of Terror type thing.

If they change the formula, then I want a film where no one is shooting at any one else.

TMP. ;) My favorite TOS film.

My favorite Star Trek movie is TMP.

I'm not against action, I just think that, maybe, it would be great to try a different formula. As much as I love the Abrams films, they follow all the rest of the films with lots of people shooting at each other. Really, just TMP and The Voyage Home don't have people shooting at each other.

I totally agree with you. TMP is still my favorite TOS film for that reason...no villain just exploration of V'ger.
You are right of the thirteen films, so far, only TMP and TVH are about that.

Maybe remaking TMP is asking too much, and I actually think TMP doesn't need to be remade. But, some kind of film with a similar theme would be great. I'd like to see a protagonist that's NOT some angry guy. A big ideas film that Asimov himself would be proud of. I think this cast is developed enough now that something like this could be attempted.

- I don't want Justin Lin back. I just don't care for his over the top direction of action scenes. They became nearly incoherent after a while.

- A worthy marketing campaign. Beyond had zero buzz about it.

- A trailer that doesn't include 80's era rap music. Were they trying to alienate their audience? I can't stress how much that trailer hurt this film.

- I don't want corporate suits who don't understand Star Trek attempting to turn it into Guardians of the Galaxy. When I heard that they wanted Beyond to be "less Trekkie + more Guardians" I knew this film was in trouble.

- I would prefer a slower, much more thoughtful film. I understand you can't make a 70's/80's era films in today's box office environment, but Beyond was just too much. I believe in the old saying that less is more.

- I would like to see J.J. Abrams return

- I wouldn't mind seeing Simon Pegg return. There were some really nice character scenes (in between the mindless action) the scene when Quinto's Spock looks at the photo of the TOS cast was the best scene of the Kelvin era films.

- For once a worthy enemy...The enemies in all three films have been poorly written wastes of the very talented actors who played Nero, Khan and Krall.

- I would bring in a proven box office star. The rumored return of Chris Hemsworth is a good start, but an even bigger name might be a good idea.

- William Shatner

All the comments I read from fans wanting to slow down and be more talky make me think that these fans really don't want any more big screen Trek. Paramount could do that--kill the movie franchise, I mean--and stick with other stuff that will cost less and make more money.

I can't wait for the backlash when CBS debuts the new series. Fans will wail and gnash their teeth, and call for the end of small screen Trek.

Then maybe CBS will cancel the series, and fans can be truly happy. :nyah:
