What do you want to see in a Buck Rogers remake?

I actually liked the idea in the 80s TV series that Buck was an astronaut that was frozen in space for several hundred years and woke up to find a lot has changed while he was asleep.

Personally, I what I'd want in a remake:
-A Buck Rogers that isn't an emo hero
-A really nasty villain who eats cute puppies for breakfast
-A little humor
-Drama
-Lots of action
-A little romance/sexual tension
-At least one scene of Buck getting the crap beaten out of him
-At least one man-eating space monster
-At least one very busty alien babe (on second thought, make that two)
-Planets being blown up
-Big spaceship battles and laser gun fights
-A high-speed hovercar chase across an ice planet
-A very big spaceship crash

Wait, so you want Ice Pirates?!?!? LOL! Just kidding.

As far as bleak goes, having your entire world and everyone you know gone will suffice. We don't need pompous trash by cynics and bigots who think humanity=evil.

I agree 100%.

Something fun and light-hearted -- none of the overdone dark-and-gritty stuff.

Espically since New Galactica ran it into the ground.

As for me, I want it to be good.

I enjoyed the nuBSG mini-series, but I gradually lost interest by the end of season two. I want something lighter -- not Adam West Batman lighter (although I love that series), but also not a show in which it's conceivable that any and all of the characters might slit their wrists in a single episode.

Same here regarding your Galactica comments. And hey, I liked the Adam West Batman show too (although I prefer the more serious stuff in that case).

As for Buck Rogers, I still hope it's good.

What's wrong with Ice Pirates? As it turns out, I'm watching that DVD right now.

No, seriously.

Connor Trinneer as Buck. Jill Wagner as Wilma.

Interesting pairing. ;) Tho I also like Gina Torres as Wilma. Or Torres with Daniel Dae Kim.

Go full batshit insane retro with it and have fun.
The one thing besides the music I really liked about the Star Wars prequels was the retro 1930s styling (more the real world Art Deco styling than how it was expressed in the sci fi of the time). Yeah, I could go for the retro aesthetic, and maybe something in the attitude - breezier, the polar opposite from BSG. Which doesn't mean trivial or stupid, just bright, lively and fun.

The massive flop of Sky Captain pretty much guarantees that we won't see any big budget "retro sci-fi" projects for at least 10-15 years. If they do it, I'm quite certain we'll see a "modern" style.
