As I Trekkie, I guess maybe it's odd I think of the Voyager probes before the TV show...but I was a space fan before I was a Trekkie. I had a Saturn rocket when I was 5. I don't think I even saw TOS till 1976-77.

I don't actually dislike "Discovery", but it's an extremely generic title with possibly the least appeal of all the series so far.
"Next Generation" had, at least at the time, the connotation of "Holy shit, they're actually making more Star Trek!'
"Deep Space Nine" was mysterious - it's dark and remote, and a number is involved for some reason.
"Voyager", apart from its connotations of Odyssey and Iliad, suggests movement into the unknown.
"Enterprise" sort of embodies the old-school Trek values of boldness and curiosity. Before the show came along, I thought it would make a great name for a trance techno act.

I really like the new name, embodies just what I want from the new show, a ship heading out on a voyage of discovery into the unknown. Hopefully they will actually stick to that premise for a bit. It's certainly more inspired than Enterprise - picking a generic Star Trek related word does not a title make. Coming this fall - Phaser.
I like it. I just hope it won't be abbreviated STD (for obvious reasons

I wish they'd gone with STAR/TREK as the first teaser kinda sorta suggested.
I don't mind it. A titles a title and it's not exactly a game changer, a source of enlightenment or a source of doom. It is what it is.
I'd kind of hoped they'd buck the trend of the spin offs with something a bit more emotive or bold, but they could have called it anything and I'd have watched anyway.
