What do you think happened to the DS9 crew?

Hypothetically, if we went back to that universe 16 years later where would the characters be?

Sisko - Based on him saying he'd be back "maybe tomorrow, maybe a year from now" I think he came back pretty soon after the finale and moved to Bajor with Kasidy and their child. He's probably still a religious icon to the Bajoran people.

Kira - I think she'd have commanded DS9 for a few years but I don't think Kira would be interested in a life in Starfleet. The episode Rapture indicated the Bajoran Militia would be integrated into Starfleet so I think she probably went down a more political route in her career. No doubt she'd continue to visit DS9 in her role as First Minister

Bashir - DS9 was his first assignment. I never saw him staying there for the rest of his career. He either got a job at Starfleet Medical and reunited with O'Brien or transferred to a ship as chief medical officer.

Ezri Dax - No way did she and Bashir stay together. I think (and I'm told in the novels) they split up. Ezri was very new to the joined Trill process. After a few years I think she'd be influenced by the experiences of previous hosts and transfer to command (this also happens in the novels, I believe). I'm unsure if she'd stay on DS9. Perhaps she'd try to move up the ranks on a starship.

O'Brien - Still happily married to Keiko and teaching at Starfleet Academy. I really don't see it any other way.

Quark - Like O'Brien, I can't see Quark anywhere else but at his bar on the station.

Jake - This is a strange one because I think Jake as a character would benefit from not having his father around for a few years. I could see him leaving DS9 and travelling the galaxy as a reporter to gain experience for his writing. Perhaps Jake leaves before Ben returns and is not within reach of communication.

Odo - Very difficult to say. Who can know if Odo felt at home in the Great Link. Maybe he did his job and changed their perception of solids and then went back to Kira. Or maybe he felt so at home in the Great Link he never left it.

Worf - It looked like he was serving on the Enterprise again in Nemesis so it clearly didn't work out with him being the Federation ambassador to Qo'Nos. I think Worf would have become Picard's first officer after the departure of Riker and the death of Data. Assuming the ship would still be in service I'm sure Worf is still there.

Sisko - He returned and took command over the station. He did build that house on Bajor where he and Kasidy could go on vacation from time to time.

Kira - Stayed on the station as Commander until Sisko returned. Then she went back to be the commanding officer for the Bajoran forces at DS9 and also as Bajoran Ambassador to the Federation.

Ezri Dax - Stayed on the station as Starfleet officer.

Bashir - Remained as the Medical Officer at the station.

O'Brien - Got tired of the boring job as teacher at Starfleet Academy and missed the exciting job at deep Space Nine and his friendship with Bashir and the others so much that he wrote to Sisko and asked him to bring him back as Chief Engineer to Deep Space Nine. Of course Sisko agreed to that. It caused a conflict in his relationship with Keiko who decided to stay on Earth, almosd divorcing Miles. However, after a year, Keiko realized that she couldn't live without Miles so she moved back to Deep Space Nine and got a job as botanist on Bajor.

Nog - Served some years on a Federation ship, then he was assigned as Security Officer on Deep Space Nine.

Rom - Became Grand Nagus in the Ferengi Alliance but after a few years he was ousted in a coup led by Brunt whose goal was to restore the old Ferengi way of living. He returned to Deep Space Nine with Leeta and became O'Briens assistant.

Leeta - Followed Rom back to Deep Space Nine and got a job as chef at Neelix's new restaurant at the station, The Leola Root which speciality is exotic food from the Delta Quadrant.

Worf - Realized that Starfleet after all was the best place and got an assignment on the Enterprise.

Jake - Continued to work as a journalist and often took vacations on Bajor to visit his good, old Dad and Kasidy.

Odo - Got tired and bored by the daily life among the Founders and their internal bickering and also tired of the new Weyoun clone who constantly tried to manipulate The Founders for the interests of the Vorta. One day Odo thought enough was enough and simply returned to Deep Space Nine and his beloved Kira. He got his job back as Chief Of Security and on his free time, he sometimes plays piano or ocarina and sings with Vic Fontaine.

Odo celebrating his return to the station by performing with Vic Fontaine and Kes And The Kestrels, playing ocarina on the old James Darren song Goodbye Cruel World, a homage to The Founder's planet.

Ro Laren - Worked as Chief Of Security until Odo returned. Stayed as a member of the Security staff on Kira's request.

Garak - Returned to Cardassia in order to help his people to build up their society again. But he got tired of the constant conflicts among the ruling circles of Cardassia and started to healize that his best years in life had actually been his time at Deep Space Nine. After becoming heavily depressed, he visited his old friend and colleague Julian Bashir in order to find a treatment for his depression. With the help of Sisko who pulled a few strings, Garak was assigned the post as Ambassador for Cardassia to The Federation and Bajor with his office at Deep Space Nine. There he continues to handle Cardassian interests and affairs in the Federation and on Bajor. During his free time, he read books, discusses politics with Bashir, Kira and Sisko and on some occasions sings Iron Maiden songs at Vic Fontaines lounge which is a part of Quarks entertainment house.

Quark - Stayed on Deep Space Nine with the goal of transforming his bar to the No: 1 entertaining place in Federation territory. As such, the bar constantly had a lot of live music events going, like visits of famous musical artists with connection to the Starfleet, such as trombone virtuoso Will Riker, the famous country music duo Sonny & Data, the song group Kes and The Kestrels, guitar virtuoso The Doctor and other well-know entertainers which are seen on the posters below from Quark's-Where The Action Is!

Odo has a similar haircut as old Jerry Lee, hasn't he?

Well, let's see.

I don't believe in this nonsense of 'Bashir becomes head of Starfleet Medical, Worf becomes head of the Klingon Alliance,etc, character x becomes an admiral' when there are quadrillions of other humanoids, too. Some will do well, others slightly less so, just like in real life. Only very few people ever get to be CEO of a large company for example, and I see no reason why it would be any different in the Starfleet universe.

Sisko returns eventually, but it's only 5 seconds before the end of the universe ('look, I'm terribly sorry, but you know, all kinds of things popping up in the celestial temple at the last minute'), and then he finds out most people haven't even heard him because everyone was listening to Zarquon, who appeared right next to him saying the same things.

Casidy gets tired of waiting and remarries.

Jake becomes a writer and a reporter hopping through the galaxy, specializing in war reporting on local conflicts.

Kira commands the station. She's seen as a figure of some importance now, having served under the Emissary for so long. However, she doesn't have a character to exploit this, go into politics and climb higher into the Bajoran power structure, so she remains commander and a somewhat revered figure till she gets too old. However, she does play a role in improving Cardassian-Bajoran relations, being one of the few Bajoran 'terrorists' during the Cardassian Occupation who also fought to liberate Cardassia from the Dominion.

Rom gets assassinated through a plot, backed by a group of conservative Ferengi who don't want their Ferenginar changed into a Federation clone. They abolish the office of the Grand Nagus and establish a quorum so that power is never again in the hands of a single individual.

Quark is torn between the conservative and progressive wing of Ferenginar for the rest of his life.

Nog does well in Starfleet, becoming the first Ferengi captain within 15 years after the end of the Dominion war.

Odo is never heard from again. Though no new war with the Dominion erupts, it's uncertain whether he managed to change the thinking in the great link or not. This is not surprising, given that Odo is just one in the great link against millions of other individuals, and there's still the fact that Section 31 nearly managed to finish them all off which they probably haven't forgotten ...

Bashir takes a few more starship postings before he decides to settle down, slow down a bit and become an practitioner in a rural community.

Ezri never becomes psychologically entirely stable. Ill-prepared for joining, she finds she can't live without a trill either. This also causes her to break up with Bashir, though relations remain cordial.

Worf achieves some prominence on the Klingon homeworld, being of a minor noble house after all, and a member of the house of Martok. However, there are still those that despise him because of his earlier discommendation and his Federation upbringing.

o' Brien teaches for a few years, then decides he'd rather be an engineer again.

Garak probably plays an important role in rebuilding Cardassia. Not sure in which capacity exactly though.

My take:

SISKO: Returns from the Prophets. Tries retirement on Bajor for quite awhile, but it eventually doesn't stick. Returns to Starfleet as the admiral in charge of the Bajor Sector with an office on DS9. With Kasidy now working at the Federation embassy on Bajor, there are sometimes political and personal disagreements between her and Sisko.

KIRA: Although she briefly left to pursue becoming a vedek, Kira also found the quiet life on Bajor too quiet and returned to Starfleet. Now a vice-admiral, Kira once again serves as Sisko's second-in-command, but now over the entire Bajor Sector.

ODO: Still in the Gamma Quadrant with the Founders, pushing reforms to make the Dominion benevolent. We don't see him anymore, but he's frequently name-dropped whenever news of the Dominion comes up.

QUARK: Now the head of one of the most successful franchises in the Ferengi Alliance, but still has his HQ at his original bar on DS9. Frequently drives the station's new female Vulcan-Bajoran chief of security up the wall.

EZRI DAX: Now a captain and having long since been a counselor, she is the current tough as nails commander of DS9.

BASHIR: Retired from Starfleet. Now has a civilian practice. There's a new Klingon female CMO on the station.

O'BRIEN: Still teaching at Starfleet Academy. There's a new Jem'Hadar operations chief on the station, originally sent by Odo.

JAKE SISKO: After a stint as an award-winning journalist with the Federation News Service, Jake found himself reluctantly following in his father's footsteps after all and joined Starfleet following a recent crisis on Bajor. He serves on the DS9 as first officer with the provisional rank of lieutenant commander given by Vice-Admiral Kira. Jake is married, has two children of his own, and still sometimes wonders if he should have stayed a journalist.

NOG: Now a Starfleet captain in command of the USS Kirk. We don't see him anymore, but we often hear of him accomplishing great deeds aboard the Kirk.

ROM & LEETA: Still leading the Ferengi Alliance as Grand Nagus and wife. After a number of successful social reforms, the Ferengi are becoming more and more respectable across the Galaxy...which is good for business.

GARAK: After playing a major role in the post-war reconstruction on Cardassia Prime, his current whereabouts are unknown.

How about instead of an academy show we find out on Star Trek: Sisko? Maybe they have tried and can't convince Avery Brooks. How about get Ronald Moore to head it?

Given that life among the Prophets is effectively timeless, Sisko could exist among them through history, witness the Big Bang, watch the Big Chill, and still be home in time to hold his and Kassidy's baby over his head and enjoy listening to the giggles. He retires quietly to a small house on Bajor, his work done, and secure in the knowledge that history can unfold without his help. He does periodically get visited by the Travelers, to dispense sage advice.

Odo remains in the Great Link, allowing the Dominion to evolve into something more tolerant than what it is, though that takes a long time. In time, the Founders use their vast knowledge of genetics to do something good.

Bashir and Ezri ends quickly and painlessly. Not sure what happens with them... maybe Bashir becomes head of Starfleet Medical, though no one is quite sure what it is...

O'Brien stays on Earth. While my head canon is that Bashir was able to reduce the severity of the "prison" sentence, reducing the memories to a post tequila bender blur, the chief had suffered a lot of other stuff. He and Keiko moved to a small town where she operated an arboretum with Bajoran and Gamma Quadrant flora. No, nothing ever got away from her and infected Earth; Keiko is good at her job.

Quark hooked up with a bunch of disgruntled misogynist Ferengi capitalists who fled Ferenginar when it went Federation 2.0, and enjoyed years of wheeling and dealing with Brunt, Gaila, and others. Soon enough, Wuarks became a chain of holosuite parlors on multiple worlds. Being an expert in holograms, he also bought all the EMH Mark I's from the mining consortium, then sold them to wealthy hypochondriacs all over the Quadrant, and used the profits to buy his own moon.

Worf winds up as captain of the Enterprise E for a time, but also works alongside Chancellor Martok in reforming Klingon society. When Martok is killed by a Duras descendant, Worf avenges him and is promptly made Chancellor again. This time, there's no one to pass the mantle to, so Worf rules the Empire for many years.

I just can’t see Worf becoming Chancellor, he’s spent literally his entire adult life as a Starfleet officer and a Federation Ambassador, especially since every Worf Klingon story ultimately boils down to Worf doesn’t fit in with other Klingons

Worf has a tendency to "out-Klingon the Klingons", especially in terms of honor, ferocity, and devotion to the ideals of the Empire laid down by Kahless. Who better than to sweep away the corruption of the years when the Duras family was influential, and Gowron's over-reliance on politics?

Worf may not be the Chancellor Quo'nos wants... but maybe he's the Chancellor it needs.

Kira: dragged into politics after Bajor joined the Federation. Currently the junior rep of Bajor’s delegation to the Federation council.

Worf: promoted to Captain and returned to DS9 as Sisko’s Chief of Staff. Commands the Defiant when it’s deployment is needed.

Dax: First officer aboard the USS Enterprise

Bashier: Chief Medical officer of the first Federation starbase in the Gamma Quadrant.

O’Brien: retired, living the quiet life on Earth with Keiko.

Quark: ultra successful in franchising his bar around the Alpha/Beta Quadrant. Runs his empire from DS9.

Nog: died in the android attack on Mars

Jake: successful writer and owner of Sisko’s restaurant on Earth. Resists many attempts by Quark to partner with him to franchise it.

I don't like the idea of everyone just deciding to come back to DS9 forever. That's sort of the sitcom logic of "Nobody's life can ever advance or get better because they all just want to stick around forever and hang out with their buddies".

Nog became a Starfleet captain and died heroically.

O'Brien used his expertise at the academy to train the next generation of engineers, becoming the most important person in the history of the Federation.

Bashir and Ezri went on a wild frontier adventure like Bashir wanted to do in the first place when he came to DS9.

Kira became one of the advocates and orchestrators for Bajor eventually joining the Federation.

Quark made his bar into a galaxy wide chain and left Morn in charge of the original DS9 Quark's franchise.

The Sisko: discovered he liked being a god and was meant to be one. Kept up some kind of correspondance with the family but gradually had to make the hard choice and moved on

Nog: decorated career. Gradually retired and moved on to other pursuits. Founded a Quark's franchise with Jake.

Jake: wrote books. see above. Became a famous card player, as well.

Ezri: concentrated more on being a counselor and helped many people.

Bashir: Fell victim to mutated sentient form of hypersyphilis and went incurably mad for several years due to his augmentation. Treated semi-successfully by a Doctor T'ana . Founded a cult based on the worship of the Sisko that proved remarkably popular in former Cardassian territory. Had a falling out with O'Brien. Date and location of death unknown.

Quark: rich. Franchise developer.

Miles: phasered himself in the head at age 60 after a lifetime of unrelenting suffering, hardships, and Keiko unaware that one day his many achievements would be recognized.

Kira: retired as a general. Stayed out of politics in the end. Married and divorced seven times including twice to High Priest Bashir.

Ziyal: brought back to life by the Sisko, don't ask. Something about the Shaxs Effect. Became a Fenris Ranger. Did not integrate into Starfleet.

Keiko: teamed up with Morn to teach Cardassian refugee children. Won an awared for her efforts.

Morn: Gave the longest acceptance speech for a speciesatarian award in history. It gradually began to be read like literature and is considered one of the great classics of post-Dominion War Media.
