If Worf never came aboard Deep Space 9, do you think Jadzia Dax and Julian Bashir would eventually become a couple, even if only temporarily?

I sometimes wonder, if ENT had gotten a Season 5, would Shran have been what Worf was to DS9 and Seven was to VOY. We'll never know, just as we can't really know what a Worf-free DS9 would have involved.

Unlike TNG, which ignored its incipient romances, or VOY and ENT, which had single flagship romances, DS9 had several romances on assorted back and front burners: the married couple, the single dad returning to the field, the violent kinky pairing, and Kira getting lusted after by pretty much everyone except Bashir (while the actors who played them got it on in real life). So I would say that in the context of DS9 being a TV show, a Jadzia/Bashir pairing was possible, but not certain.

In terms of the characters themselves, I adhere to what Ezri said. "If Worf hadn't come along, it would have been you." It's possible she was lying because she wanted Bashir for herself, but it doesn't seem her style.

While I generally think Bashir had been friendzoned by the time Worf entered the battlefield (I had to), I can see a possibility where his evident maturation over time (though who knows how much of Bashir's initial demeanor was an act he was putting on to hide his augmentations) led Jadzia to reevaluate him.

Bashir was not ready to act on any same-sex feelings he might have had for Garak. Garak sensed that any further moves would just result in hostility and confusion, nothing that would benefit Garak or Cardassia.

I think Bashir was seen as too puppy-like by the more mature Jadzia.

Respectfully, I disagree with him. The ratings trended downwards for the entire run of the show anyway. With bumps of course. There are always bumps.

Bringing back Worf was one of the things about DS9. I loved him as much as the other main characters.

Yes. I really do . Ezri was telling he truth IMO. Reading between the lines, Jadzia essentially said that she was open to a relationship but Julian just came on too strong for her liking. . For some women, trying to hard is a bit of a turn off. If he didn't, I think he could of at least dated Jadzia in a romantic way pre-Worf. But by the time she got used to him chasing her, she saw him as a friend and that moment was lost.
However , I still think Jadzia would of eventually circled back to him if Worf didn't come along. Especially as their friendship grew and Bashir matured and became more confident, and likely more attractive to her..
