I rather enjoy it too. I mean, come on, they had a Star Trek spoof for Pete's sake!

I haven't bought anything related to my favorite shows other than a BtVS ringtone, which I still use. Not a big chance that anyone around here would have the same one. HOWEVER, my kids get me things like Invader Zim plushies and DVRs, so my favorites generate sales anyway.

Next time you are watching your most favourite new show that is still airing first run, look at the advertising... Is that is the shite which you would be interested in, this you are the target audience, because those ads were carefully selected to entice the demographic that is "supposed" to be intentionally and wittingly watches that show you love.

If you don't relent to advertising now and then, then you shouldn't be allowed to watch tv.

It's not fair to all th people who see an ad for a car on TV and then give their local dealer ship 30 grand for a shitty new car.

They have earnt their right to watch TV for weeks to come!

It's a shoddy system.

One day they, they'll do this right, around the other way.

Backwards.

When you buy consumables, that will allow you media credits to watch particular media that is sponsored by the people who make the products you have just bought, and you can only continue watching this media if you continue buying from the producers you need to watch the hours and channels that you need to to make you happy.

Which is kinda how the exclusivity of cable ( and payperview) works.

For me:
*Winnie the Pooh (yes, I had a Winnie the Pooh when I was little).
*The Teletubbies (because I had this story idea that they are trying to swindle the human race thinking they are benign, when they are really trying to take over the human race).
*The Tinkerbell films....

Well, one of my other interests besides science fiction is animation, so I kind of stopped caring about this after getting into that. Some of the more extreme examples are animated shows I've seen that were made to sell to teenage girls or adult women:

Amnesia (Hell, even has one of my favorite openings)
Angel Heart
Bokura ga Ita (We Were There)
Bunny Drop (Usagi Drop)
Fire Tripper
First Kiss Story
Fruits Basket
Haibane Renmei
Hakuoki: Dawn of the Shinsengumi
Hakuoki
Hakuoki: Record of the Jade Blood
His and Her Circumstances
Honey and Clover
Honey and Clover 2
Karin
Kimi ni Todoke (From Me to You)
Kimi ni Todoke Season 2
Kobato
Kodocha (Child's Toy)
The Laughing Target
Library War (Toshokan Sensou)
Library War: Wings of Revolution
Lovely Complex
Mermaid Forrest
Mermaid Scar
Mermaid Forrest TV
Natsuyuki Rendezvous
NieA_7
No. 6
Princess Tutu
Rose of Versailles
Saiyuki
Saiyuki: Reload
Saiyuki: Gunlock
Saiyuki: Requiem
Someday's Dreamers
To Heart
Twelve Kingdoms
Umi no Yami, Tsuki no Kage (Darkness of the Sea, Shadow of the Moon)
Vampire Knight
Vampire Knight: Guilty
The Vision of Escaflowne
Zakuro

I'm also watching Fairy Tail and Naruto Shippuden which are aimed at guys half my age.

Disney animation (some of the modern computer animated ones are very good but i'm a huge fan of the old, hand animated stuff)

Glee - dropped out somewhere in season 4 but seasons 1+2 are still excellent

Grey's Anatomy - avid watcher since almost the beginning. This show has changed so many actors but for some reason they still manage to make the new actors interesting. Sometimes it drifts heavily into soap and some storylines are just plain bad but overall they keep a nice level going

Romantic Comedies - When Harry Met Sally.. 'nuff said

I'm also a huge animation fan, and I still enjoy kid's movies. I just watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the first time ever yesterday. It was a lot of fun.
I've posted about the fact that I've been watching H20: Just Add Water on Netflix. I started because three of the main leads are The Vampire Diaries' and The Originals' Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley on TVD/TO) and Claire Holt (Rebecca on TVD/TO), who I like alot. It's actually a pretty fun show.

I've not been part of the target audience for anything in almost 30 years, but there are still things I like. The stuff I am the target audience for are usually Republican campaign ads (though I've not voted Republican since '72), ads for old people (laxatives, viagra, beds that move like hospital beds, etc.), and for over 13 years I've been getting mailed invitations to join A.A.R.P.

^ I can't help but snicker at the Cialis ads myself. "For a good time... Cialis." That's one way they could spice things up more.

I'm 40 and I enjoy way too much stuff that isn't aimed at me to list here. I don't really think about it too much.

The most obvious ones that spring to mind are HBO's Girls (the second best show on TV after Community) and the music of Lady GaGa. I've also developed a fascination with WordGirl. I love the animation style and the stories are fun.

Re: What do you enjoy that you aren't the "target audience" for? (Be n

^ And as Bill Engvall once pointed out: if Cialis really worked, shouldn't the couple be in the SAME bathtub?

As a 31 year old heterosexual white male, there's not much that isn't marketed towards me. But there are moments.

I definately felt this way when Veronica Mars first moved from UPN to the CW. All of a sudden, the show was paired up with Gilmore Girls as its lead-in and all of the ads were for tampons. They would even occasionally have these tampon-sponsored host segments where a bunch of airhead teenage girls would ramble on about Veronica's love life, completely disregarding the mystery aspects of the show.:wtf: I started to really wonder if I'd somehow gotten tricked into watching the wrong show. (I also had similar second thoughts about Roswell from time to time. But the presence of Ronald D. Moore as one of the head writers helped to reassure me.)

I feel like I'm one of the few totally sober fans of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I'm tempted to say Lost Girl because I feel like I'm one of a small handful of that show's non-lesbian fans. But then I remember that Jay Firestone probably made the show with me in mind. It just so happens that the lesbianism is authentic enough to attract actual lesbians too.;)

Somehow, don't ask me how, but somehow, my mother was able to get me totally hooked on Downton Abbey and Sex & the City. (Unfortunately, Downton Abbey has just gotten off of a really shitty season. I haven't watched Sex & the City for years but I still say it's a much smarter show than most people gave it credit for.)

I'm thinking I might have to check out Phineas and Ferb sometime. I'm always seeing tons of stuff for it, and I lot of people seem to like it.

You should. It's awesome!
