What do you do for a living?

My job is to slowly watch my bank account drain while my debt increases. More specifically, I'm a law student. I've interned at various Public Defender Offices that last two summers, which is where I think I want to work.

I'm an astrophysicist, but in recent years I've shifted from research only to mixing it with outreach programmes with the public and schools, a role I'm starting to find more and more comfortable than just sitting in front of a computer running cosmological simulations.

As little as possible.

Which in my case means discover that I've allowed myself to have seven books (plus comics, articles etc) under contract at the same time, and then panic.

Which leads to a more accurate answer of:

Drink Jim Beam and try to type - a lot, and fast...

I'm a reference assistant working in a library, saving up money to get a master's degree in either library science or social science education.

I run my own little pizza shop in the inner city. I was born for this.

You lucky bastard!

I LOVE pizza and being surrounded by it would be epic, but I don't think the hospitality and catering industry is for me (having dabbled with it a few years back).

Unfortunately, I'm currently engaging in my annual pizza fast - which is just as bad as it sounds because I stop eating pizza and don't go near it for months at a time every year in an effort not to pile on weight - seriously, I can and have eaten pizza for weeks at a time.

Yes, some of my beginning clients were "Adult" material producers.

Freelance Video Editor, Video Production and Computer Graphics.

Have you ever encountered job opportunities of a "adult" nature in your specific field. For some reason I can imagine the behind the scenes stuff (eg, designing computer graphic engines for websites, editing video, etc) in the adult industry as being incredibly lucrative.

Interesting. We have a fellow member, Bear Discovers Fire, who used to do work editing pictures of an "adult" nature. I thought that must've been a cool job, but she said she didn't care for it much.

Structural Design Engineer for an aerospace company. Nearly all the programs I've worked have been for the military so far.

I'm also a software developer. Unfortunately, I've developed so many programs at my current company that it seems like I spend half my time supporting our users instead of actually programming.

Unemployed attorney, but not seeking employment. Still, don’t go into law unless it’s fully paid for and/or you have fan-tas-tic connections.

Hubby is a pharmacist, graduated 2000. Pay rose around 2003-2004 to over $130K/yr. Now there’s too many pharmacy schools and the Boards are easy (99% pass rate), so it’s likely pay will decrease for new pharmacists in the near future.

People will ALWAYS need plumbers, plumbing can’t be outsourced anywhere, and you can control your hours. Sure, there can be unlicensed plumbers as competition, but most people would prefer someone licensed. Who needs a flood--or a toilet that doesn’t flush?

I guess the next questions should be:

  • How much money do you make?
  • How much do you spend on essentials and bills, and how much disposable income do you have?
  • How much do you have in the bank?

I can answer them in the form of haiku:

1) Never enough
2) Too much; never enough
3) Never enough

:vulcan:

My answers are the same! Well, to elaborate ...

1. Not enough for my extravagant lifestyle :borg:
2. More than I make; what disposable income?
3. I still haven't won the lottery.
