What Did You Have For Dinner Last Night?

Disaster struck last night. As I was cooking the pork chops I mentioned earlier, timing them to be done just as my wife got home from work, one of our cats decided to hork all over our living room carpet. So I had to abandon the stove and get to cleaning that up, because cat vomit can stain carpet pretty quickly. In the process, though, the chops got overheated, skyrocketing past 145 degrees and topping out at around 172 (you shouldn't cook pork higher than 160, and even that's over-cooking it, in my book), drying them out pretty badly.

I mean, they were still tasty enough because they were seasoned properly, and the pan sauce that I made with the rendered fat and some herbs turned out great, but ... they could have been so much more. :(

That's always the way it happens, Timby. It's always something right at the critical moment.

Anyhoo, I made a Poor Man's Meal for dinner. It was delicious and enjoyed by all. I've been getting interested in Depression era cooking for some time now, mainly because it has to be cheap and filling, and this particular experiment has been my favorite so far.

Just realized I haven't posted here for a while. Been busy. Didn't really have dinner last night but a late lunch which consisted of a Little Caesars Hot and Ready Pepperoni pizza with Crazy Bread.

Visiting family in my hometown last night (in Oregon) and went to the pizza parlor we always ate at when I was growing up. Had the same combination pizza (sausage, pepperoni, ground beef, olives, mushrooms, green pepper and onion) I always had as a kid (well, teenager) and, as soon as the pizza came to the table and I smelled it, I was instantly transported back in time 30 years.

Who needs to slingshot around the sun when you've got the smell of a childhood favorite food? :p

Just started cooked some chips, and will start making a hamburger to have with it to have before Doctor Who in 45 minutes.

I made paneng gai yesterday. Kiddo and AA liked it much, I did not. I just don't like too aeromatic spices that goes into some thai food. Possibly cilantro? Or just the ginger..
