cut wheat bread (e.g. toast, ciabatta, rolls or baguette) into cubes (if you like, you can cut off the crust first),
whisk an egg (like for scrambled eggs) and coat the breadcubes with it on all sides,
fry the cubes till golden brown (hence the name),
dump them into hot broth and sprinkle with chives. Cheap, nourishing and tasty.
