Here's a question: did female Captains in the TOS-era wear Gold/green miniskirts, or did they wear pants?
The TOS era painted a pretty bleak picture for women seeking to command, due to the time it was produced in.

And I'd probably be a redshirt in the engineering department, not security. Although I think a career in xenoarchaeology would be awesome.

True, but we know from ENT that there had to have been female captains. Afterall, the second warp 5 ship in Starfleet (the Columbia NX-02) was commanded by Capt. Erika Hernandez.

We did see women aboard the Enterprise in 'Charlie X' and I think also 'The Man Trap' wearing a shirt that looked like the top of the mini-dress uniform with pants and boots. Before that (presumably in the previous uniform scheme) in 'The Cage' and 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' women wore those puffy-collared tunics, with not a mini-dress to be found.

So my guess would be that female crewmen could take their pick. Most regular female officers apparently picked mini-dress, but since we didn't see any female Captains, who knows...

And Janice Lester was insane you know... :shifty:

I seem to remember seeing a gold mini-skirt or two in various episodes of TOS and I know I saw one in DS9 "Trials and tribbleations". But I don't think I ever saw a female crew member wear Tunic/Pants

So my best guess would be, they could choose.

Never been established. I would assume that if a woman was in charge she would quite literally 'be wearing the pants' though it would like be her choice given the amount of captain variant uniforms floating around.
My guess would be female senior officers (Commanders and Captains) got to wear pants. Any female commanders in TOS?

If we are talking ENT-TOS era, I'd pick GOLD! I'm more of the ''command'' type! PLUS I can send countless red shirts to there DOOM! MWA-HA-HA!

As an engineering student hoping to be more than just a student one day, I'd wear red.

I'd have a suit of armor under that, though, and a phaser hidden away under my pants, with the safety securely on.

I'm taking NO chances.

Since I get to choose this time around I pick GOLD of command. I've been there & done the redshirt thing...

I'd wear that wrap-around green number of Kirk's in season one.

I'd have to suck in my gut so far my belly-button would be on my back, but I'm willing.

Joe, uncrunched

I'd wear black and just leave 'em guessing. ;)

GOLD. Helmsman or navigator. Front row seat to what's cooking.

It's far from canon, but the fan production Exeter features a female first officer who wears the minidress on board ship, but changes to pants to beam down. The reason I mention a fan production is it does present what appears to be a reasonable appearance of what a female senior officer would appear like.

Here's what I was thinking of from 'The Man Trap' and 'Charlie X' before and after Charlie's 'magic.' I have a feeling it's the very same uniform - you can see that it has the black minidress collar and not the pilot 'fluffy' collar. I almost wonder if the just took a pilot shirt and cut a different neckline and affixed the black material for the collar.

If we're talking strictly canon designs? Red jumpsuit, I think. (IIRC, all three uniform colors had equivalent jumpsuits, and any officer could wear either design - uniform, or jumpsuit - as the need arose.)

If, OTOH, we're allowed to make one up: Black.

I seem to remember one time that Gene suggested the Enterprise carried a platoon of marines. I know we never saw them but I always thought that if we had, they'd have worn a black variant of the TOS uniform.
