Jadiza Dax. She quite often comes across as needlessly arrogant, self-aggrandizing, supremely self-absorbed and mean-spirited. Other times, she's tolerable, but that's it - tolerable.
What makes it worse is that a lot of the other characters treat her like she's practically a goddess.
I find her quite shallow really.
Out of the secondary characters - I found Zek annoying. As a character he was weaselly, selfish, greedy, manipulative...pretty much what you expect from a Ferengi politician. All that was fine, it was just his voice...it got very grating after a while if he had a big role in the episode.
But then, that could have been due to the fact that Ezri wasn't prepared for the symbiont the way Jadzia was.
You would of had major issues no matter what, as Terry Farrel put the producers in a bind by not doing S7. (And I found Ezri a lot more watchable then Jazdia)
But the producers had to add a female to the cast to replace J. Dax in some form, as Kira as the only female would be bad for both storylines and for ratings. So they had three options for how to handle it.
1. Upgrade a minor character to main cast - However by the end of season 3 they did not have a female minor cast worth "promoting", as they had killed off a few of them already.
2. Introduce a new character with no connections to the main cast.
3. take the Dax symbiont and put it in another female trill, and make her not the same as J. Dax.
They went with three, and I prefer option 3 to option 2.

The writers have said they had to add a female, but I disagree. Jadzia leaving posed no problem for the show.
Adding a character for affirmative action reasons, such as based on the actor's sex, like they did with Ezri, is horrible for storylines. Ezri demonstrates that very well. All of her storylines were useless filler.
Characters should only be included if they have merit based on their contribution to the story that is being told. Ezri had none; she was completely irrelevant to the story of the show.
Similarly, Jadzia also had none and was also completely irrelevant to the story of the show.
They could done absolutely nothing to "replace" Jadzia, and the show would have been fine, and much better than it turned out by adding Ezri, and probably also much better than it would have turned out with any other affirmative action replacements. From a storytelling perspective, doing nothing to replace Jadzia is the very best option.
I'm not sure if ratings would have suffered...do people actually count the number of affirmative action-based characters on a show and then watch or not watch based on that? If so, one would would think that VOY would have had amazing ratings since it is chock full of affirmative action-based characters.
But in any case, they should have let ratings suffer, if they were going to, rather than sacrifice the quality of the show by employing irrelevant affirmative action characters. It's not like ratings mattered that much in S7 given that they were ending the show anyhow.
I like all of the main characters, but my least favourite i O'Brien. Nice guy, but boring story lines.
I think some people are having a difficult time separating a character from the actor that played them. For example, I don't mind Jadzia the character, but I find Terry Farrell a weak actor which could make Jadzia disliked.
I don't actively dislike any character on DS9, but to me Shakaar is the blandest recurring character ever.
I have looked over a few eps and officially decided i can't stand Kai Win, or at least the actress tht plays her, but i really do't know why... :/
