What Changes Would You Have For "The Ultimate Computer"?

What does the Excalibur look like at the end? Broken off nacelles? Black smudges with glowing shades of orange and red bleeding out? Any type of visible battle damage? I'm going to be a little disappointed if you say no, although I'm sure I'll enjoy the actual battle. But I wanted to see them really fuck up the Excalibur. Something that would scare a small child and put a big smile on an older child. Something that would make a typical 20 year old Star Wars fan go "...whoa."
Actually, you just see her from a distance tumbling end over end slowly...powerless. No close up shots of hull damage or destruction, sadly. Frankly I expected much better out of the Remastered f/x in an episode like this and it sucks Okuda and his people took lazy shortcuts to save time and effort.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that they were lazy... I think what we're seeing here is an example of budgetary pressures resulting in a subpar CGI effort.

Okay. Maybe "lazy" is a tad unfair. My apologies to them. I just got my hopes up SO high when the Remastered series was first announced that---depending on the episode and the weekend---it can be mighty hard to live up to my hopes and expectations, especially in an episode with wargames and other Federation starships.

Well, except they could have had a phaser flash and switched from an intact ship to the wrecked Constellation model.

Seriously. Just paste the Excalibur's registry number and name over top of the CGI Constellation's identification marks or something. This was a supreme missed opportunity.

I agree. I would rather have had that and not the watchtower.

Honestly, is there anyone who doesn't love to see connies go boom?

Maybe there'll be better ship combat scenes in "Elaan of Troyius" and "The Enterprise Incident." Lots of opportunities for new shots of Klingon warships taking potshots at the Enterprise.

No shots were fired in "The Enterprise Incident". "Elaan of Troyius" should be pretty good, though. Hopefully. I was disappointed with "The Ultimate Computer".

Being one of my all time favorite episodes, I too have to say I was mildly disappointed. I liked all the nice establishing shots and stuff; New space station, revamped Woden, and multiple Connies that don't look like the exact same image split into four on-screen. I even liked the first battle drill fine, since it all went the way it should. But the major battle stuff just deflated that expectation balloon, big time.

Knowing that Professor Moriarty has his eye on it though, really brings a ray of hope to the future. :D

Oh I do. This episode is next on my list.

If you show a nacelle being phasered loose and spinning away, I'll mow your yard for a year.

I'd have shown the Enterprise making a close strafing run on the Excalibur and phasering a big chunk or two out of her saucer section. And perhaps had the M-5 blow a piece out of another ship's stardrive/engineering hull.

Despite not seeing any explosions or close-up hull damage, I thought the Excalibur spinning powerless was very well done.

True, the spinning sequence was nice in its own right. Just a shame we didn't get a close enough shot of the ship to depict hull damage.

Oooh! I shall shamelessly steal your cool idea.

Shame the Remastering team didn't use that idea. Maybe we'd be bitching a lot less about the final outcome of this episode.

During the exterior space shot, they also could have had the "camera" stationary while the spinning Excalibur zoomed very close past the camera. I would have been happy with at least one faintly visible black crater smudge. Or small little explosions like the ones we saw on Kang's ship during the remastered Day of the Dove.
