What brought you to TrekBBS?

I was browsing for internet chatter about ST:XI.

I read the posts on the ST:XI forum, then glanced around the others, then saw one I just HAD to respond to, so I registered. I'm a slow poster. It's going to take me forever to get the 50 posts I need to put up my own avatar.

The voices.

I took a 4 month vacation back to the good old USA and needed something to do. I bought some Trek novels and started writing one myself, every day in the cafe. (Heaven). Well I guess I stumbled here doing some research and got hooked, (especially by the caption contests).

I've been a Star Trek fan and science fiction fan since I was a kid. Give me more. More. More please. We need it to make our ship go.

I would have probably joined the forum a long time ago had I thought to search for one. But like the man said, computers don't volunteer information!

I think it was a question about what character names from Catch-22 were doing being mentioned in a DS9 episode that brought me to online Trek to start. Further searches on Yahoo! and Goto.com, Infoseek and Google led me to Tim Lynch's DS9 reviews on PsiPhi and Jim Wright's Voyager reviews, Andrew Tong's TNG website (then still on CalTech's system) and to threads at (the then-very much Black and Blue) TrekBBS.

I registered first at Five-Minute Voyager's fora (after having read every fiver then online) and a month and a half later at TrekBBS. Then some other stuff happened.

I had de-evolved into a non-Trekkie by 2002, but when I heard that Nemesis would be coming out it sparked something in my head and I had to find out about it. I looked around the internet and within 30 seconds I was here. The first thread I found was a very in-depth conversation about Janeway's pink nightie. Funniest thing I had seen in a long time. I lurked for over a year and joined in March 04 when I relapsed into sci-fi addiction.

"And what in heaven's name brought you to TrekBBS?"
"My health. I came to TrekBBS for the waters."
"Waters? What waters? We're in the desert."
"I was misinformed."

Apparently I've been here since February 2002. I probably came here when I found out that the TrekLit forum here was busy, popular, had a lot of Trek novel writers and editors participating, and the tone was pretty good. Way back when, Pocket's official Trek books board was the place to be, then it was Psi Phi, which took a hit from some technical problems and the site owner's health problems, and this has been the place for the last several years. Sometimes I go for ages without venturing out of TrekLit, other times I participate in other forums regularly.

I haven't been here long, but I found the main site while looking for an episode guide and clicked onto the forums.

It was years before i signed up. I used to check out news on TrekToday like some people mentioned already. I started lurking the TrekBBS once in a while. I started to visit a bit more often as the years went by. Then one day two years ago, I just decided to join.

I always perused Trektoday. One day, I spotted a link to a 'TrekBBS'. Not knowing what a BBS was, I clicked... and the rest is history.

There was an old Star Trek: Insurrection site that linked to Trek Today, which in turn linked to the Trekbbs.

I've been here ever since early 2001.

I used to browse the news on TrekToday all the time. One day, there was a topic over in the forums that caught my eye. I decided to check it out and after reading a few posts, it seemed like a cool place to talk Trek. Not long after that, I registered and have been posting ever since.

I stumbled onto the board during a graveyard shift trying to find something to help me stay awake. :techman:

It was the ongoing thread by Capt April about the Enterprise 1701 deck plans! I did a google search for 1701 deck plans and found the thread (I believe it was version III that time) and was impressed by the comments and artwork. From there I thought Id stay!

I was probably Google-searching for some arcane piece of Trek trivia, and a link in the search results probably led here.

I'm sure google got me here too. I don't really remember specifically how or why it happened. But, any serious Star Trek fan who is on the internet is bound to come here at least once, right?

I lurked for a while before I registered. I remember my first post ever was about Voyager and the coaxial warp drive. Then another long drought of only lurking until I eventually forgot my name or any login informarion. Then I picked it up again with a new name, and the rest is history.

what broght me to trek bbs was a link from another forum.I just lurked for awhile until i plucked up the courage to have a go at joining in a bit more. tried a few other forums but they usally either were unmoderated or just seemed so unfriendly, only one other forum i've found was ever as friendly as this one actually i think that is where i found out about this one

I think it was because Psi Phi shut down...it's been so long, I can't really recall. I came here for post-DS9 chatter, got caught up in VOY and that was all she wrote...

That was the day before Halloween 1999. Maybe Psi Phi hadn't shut down that early but I do recall hearing about this place there. Made it sound like you could lose an arm here!

I don't remember. Like everything else I discovered on the web, it was probably an accident.

Back at the beginning of the century, I was into 3d modeling and there was a little Star Trek discussion board attached to the 3d Gladiators board, which itself had sprung out of the defunct ScifiArt board. I think it was called the Subspace BBS and it used a graphic of the Space Station K7 as it's logo. Maybe Starship Polaris or Samuel T Cogley can remember because I believe that that's where I first encountered those crotchety old coots. Fond memories.

Anyway, I only ever lurked over there but I would catch references to this place every now and then (usually derisive ones) and finally decided to check it out. I lurked here for several years after that before I finally registered.
