What are your thoughts about seeing the prime universe again?

Don't forget nuKirk had an abusive stepdad, who drove a reallllly old car and listened to "classical" music.

The extended version of the scene had the car (and presumably the music) as being George's.

Funny enough, one of Shatner's novels had Kirk's Prime's father as an (unintentional) emotional abuser. I'm not claiming it's part of der Canon and all that (I'm fairly certain his name was wrong, for a start), but it's kind of funny how bad parenting seems to be a recurring idea when it come to Kirk. Must be tempting to explain his issues with authority or something.

Now he's even worse. Another man's wife and his car :).

It makes sense George wouldn't be a stellar family role model. Most great figures throughout history were deeply flawed. It stands to reason that it would continue on like that in the future. They "mapped the brain" according to TNG, but we know gene re-sequencing is illegal, so people are going to be born much as they are now, just a little better informed and educated, and maybe less detrimental environmental factors.

Lol. Yeah by the time nupicard gets his enterprise he won't be able to.say "plenty of letters left in the alphabet"because nukirk will have used so many.

If nuPicard is anything like his Prime counterpart, he'd be in no position to judge.

I mean, damn - even Picard's from erased timelines, Borgified versions, and his clones have ended up with destroyed ships. The man's a damn albatross!

I thought that was his uncle, not step dad. Anyway we never see him and Jim is always acting out, as well as his mom always being offworld, not sure who's to blame really.

I got the impression it was both. His mum (mom since its Iowa..) remarried to his Uncle.

NuKirk is way worse. Every adventure we have seen of his thus far has been him let massive destruction or death happen because of his failure as a Captain. Sure people are going to die but he never minimizes it. He gets lucky more often then not when guys like Scotty save his butt. He stinks as a captain.

He even requests to be made an admiral! Is that how it works in nuStarfleet?
– "Hello I'm bored as a captain and I want you to make me an admiral"!
– "Well sure if it means you'll be in a desk and not crashing another one of our starships"! :rommie: :guffaw:

Whatever makes you feel better with having to deal with the prime universe being back in new star treks stories. Good timing since the last nutrek.universe film did horrible. Prime trek is by far the superior trek thus far.
What did I do now?!?

I wasn't talking about you. I was quoting Pubert's nonsense about Beyond doing horrible.

He stinks as a captain.

And yet Starfleet just gave him command of the NCC-1701-A. So he can't be doing that bad.

A movie that did so horribly, the studio not only greenlit a sequel while it was still releasing worldwide but have started outlining the story.

Compared to a timeline that has been off the air for 12 years due to it's failings and is only coming back so heavily retooled as to be unrecognisable.

On a estimated budget of 185 million it made at this point only about 160 million domestic which is the greater profit margin in terms of how many dollars the studio gets. It has made about 140 million in foreign business but the studios do not get as large a cut of the profits from the foreign receipts so you can see how important it is for a movie to make its money in the states. The domestic receipts are never going to reach the budget of the movie. That is not a successful movie.

No, "not a successful movie" means that a movie with, say, a budget of $150 million made only $25 million both in domestic and foreign profits. Exaggerate much?

The studio at this point will not be giving the next movie as big a budget because when all is said and done STB just made its money back and no real great profit for the studio. I'm guessing they are going to reduce the budget to 130-150 million for the sequel. The NuTrek series is now in a diminishing returns mode and the studio will not gamble as much money on it.

So? Who cares? As long as they keep making the films, who gives a crap what the budget is? It's not my money they're spending.

One that to this day makes more money in merchandising than those movies, and that produced significantly more hours of quality product. I also don't think you quite understand how that franchise and TV works. The Kelvin timeline only exists as an extension of that timeline and all its failings, is a sequel to enterprise in various areas, and it's first two films depend on an understanding of the stories from that timeline to make any sense. I haven't seen beyond, but I hear it depends on enterprise for some it's continuity.

So yes....
You could just as easily argue for the reboots simply being the third time the TV show has made a jump to the big screen, with 2009 being a sequel to both nemesis and enterprise as well as an attempted reboot of TOS.

And the Shat still moves more merch than Pine.

The films will suffer in quality. STB was a pretty lackluster outing from the story to the shitty effects. The villain stunk and was frankly boring. That last shot of the Enterprise -A being built in speed mode was horribly done and cheesy. The movie was a all around crap fest imo and the next one will most likely even be worse. There is a chance since the budget will be much less that the producers will actually have to spend some time on the story and characterization so a lower budget may actually help the film.

All of that is just your opinion. I happened to love the film and thought it was the best of the three. So opinions don't matter. As far as suffering in quality because of a reduced budget? Bull. The SW prequels had huge budgets and those movies sucked. Budget is not a considering factor in how good or bad a film will be.

I keep reading and re-reading this post, thinking that something witty will pop into my head to say in response. But nothing I can come up with is funnier than the post itself. Kudos, Herbert! :techman:
