What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Hell, the Refit is barely 15 years old even if you start counting from the moment the TOS Enterprise returned to drydock and powered down.

For whatever reason, CometTV has been airing TMP every Sunday Night this month, and every time I watch a few minutes of it, I pick up something new.
This time it was Kirk's quarters and how antiseptic it looked, like being in a doctor's examine room. There was no life to it. Granted, Kirk hadn't had time to personalize it, but by the time of TWOK, with the different lighting and increased set decoration, his quarters looked lived in

The Romulan ale McCoy gives Kirk for his birthday is said to be 2283 vintage, and they both comment on how long it takes Romulan ale to ferment. So the movie has to take place after 2283.
That must be it. Though it's weird they'd choose to contradict the far more obvious "15 year" figure, instead of ignoring the bottle.

In my opinion they should have built around the already established dates from TWOK while filming "Generations". If the only clues about the timeline were the bottle and the relative date of Space Seed, they could have very well placed the five year mission a bit later. It's not like they were bound to the 2265 year by any hard canon.

I'm very annoyed that the "official" timeline kicks TWOK's setting around so that it can fit with later films. You know what? Change the timeline on THOSE films. (Is it just Generations?) Punish THOSE fans / writers. TWOK had one of the only statements of time (15 years) that actually happened.
Yeah, same. Kirk and Khan both say it's been 15 years since Kirk exiled Khan to Ceti Alpha V. So yeah, it's been 15 years. And you know that Khan is so obsessive that he's timed it down to the second. The Okudas saying it had actually been 18 years was one of the biggest things I disagreed with in their Chronology.

I solved that on my timeline by having TWOK take place in March 2283, Kirk's 49th birthday. (Nicholas Meyer's original script had Kirk turning 49, but that was axed at the request of William Shatner, who didn't want a specific age indicated.)

I cheated a bit by having "Space Seed" take place in September 2267 (during the 3rd year of the 5YM), so it's actually been about 15 1/2 years, but I figure as long as it's between 15 and 16 years, it's all good.

It's an ale. It's heady stuff, but it's Romulan beer.

Legit question because this is out of my experience: Are there "ales" with a whiskey like kick that the Romulan Ale clearly has?

That is still one of my favorite takes that Shatner ever did. He goes through surprise, a kind of "acceptance" of the challenge, and then a wonderful "Hey, that was a real nice try" smile to Bones. And none of it is mugging or over the top.

When he could control himself he was so good.

ENTERPRISE season 1 is much better than most people say, and far superior to PICARD or DISCO season 1.
You've just given me an excuse for some controversial season rankings.
  1. Discovery S1. Klingons are bad and it barely features its big war but it's usually 'good enough'.
  2. Picard S1. Doesn't feel very Star Trek and Stardust City Rag exists, but it's fine.
  3. Enterprise S1. The most tedious season of live action Trek in its entire history.
I'm curious to see how other people would rank them.

All I know is if that's Kirk's response to Romulan Ale, he shouldn't try the Romulan Whiskey.

How about this for controversial:

For me, I think one thing was Bakula/the show not having Archer's characterization down until arguably season 3. I remember watching the show during the first two seasons thinking Bakula was horribly miscast.

Archer in season 1 doesn't come off as all that likeable or much of a leader. He pouts a lot about the Vulcans.

Also, at a certain point I realized the writers/producers were more enamored with the general idea of the Temporal Cold War, the Suliban and Future Guy, than actually having a well thought-out story that knew where it was going with those elements.

Enterprise season one.
Discovery season one.
Picard season one.

Picard, as a whole, was just so incredibly disappointing.

I think a lot of that is due to Nicholas Meyer's direction. Shatner gives his best performances in TWOK and TUC, in my opinion.
