What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

He also didn’t program Data to have emotions, yet he clearly felt rage at Kevas Fatjo in “The Most Toys”.
That's Data becoming "More Human". His program is "Evolving to be more Human-Like" for better/worse.

I tend to think Data would be quite capable of defending himself from a physical attack.
Assuming he can detect it fast enough and has enough time/power to stop it.

He isn't as infallible as you think he is.

I just want you all to be aware that you’re debating whether or not Data’s on/off switch should be located up his ass.
Okay, we'll drop it.
I guess some things are "Too Controversial" even for this topic.

I think you have it backwards.

Smart Folks will learn how to press a switch, even if it requires "Oomph".

On/Off buttons are easy, hacking Computers are far harder than pressing a button.

1) Data can't see behind himself, he's limited to the same FoV as a Human Being
2) Multiple Strong Aliens or other Androids could hold him still long eonugh that a 3rd person can press the button.
3) If you lack man power, a custom projected Force Field can hold him "Still Enough" that you create a small opening in said Force Field to DeActivate him.

Hacking takes A LOT more knowledge about the specific Platform, Weaknesses, & Accessibility to even work.

On/Off buttons are easy once you know where they are and how much force you need to incapacitate the Android.
And yet Data was compromised or shut off more often through other means than his off switch was used. (And one of those off switch times was in court in "The Measure Of A Man".)

Such as in...
"The Last Outpost"
"Datalore"
"Contagion"
"The Ensigns of Command"
"Brothers"
"Power Play"
"Birthright, Part I"
"Descent"
"Descent, Part II"
"Thine Own Self"

STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT
STAR TREK: INSURRECTION

His off switch was used in...
"The Schizoid Man" (don't know for sure, but likely based on dialogue between Data and Graves)
"The Measure Of A Man"
"The Game"

And those were possible only because the people who used it knew EXACTLY where it was AND was someone close to him in a friendship/family way.

The off switch is clearly much more secure.

Then why does it need to be moved?
Make it much harder to "Accidentally or Intentionally" trigger.

Ever heard the adage of "Loose Lips Sinks Ships"?

It only takes one security leak for the vast amount of enemies to know how to deal with your Android Model.

Just because it wasn't used much in TNG, doesn't mean it's not a severe vulnerability.

As crazy as this sounds…

If an enemy knew of Data’s off switch and were planning on trying to abduct him that way, wouldn’t they just bring a wand to reach up there?
