What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I love the red wrath of khan uniforms in an aesthetic sense, but it must be the worst in the practical sense.

As bad as the enterprise uniforms on archer, trip etc, at least they were better fitting and more practical

I think the Enterprise uniforms make them look like they're working at a gas station.

All authors of repute inflate themselves somewhat. Gerrold is no different.

I must disagree. As a long time SF fan prone to attend conventions I have met a great many writers of repute. Anne McCaffery, Gordon Dickson, Robert Heinlein, Theodore Sturgeon, Allen Steel, Allen Dean Foster, among many, many others. For the most part they are smart and reasonably humble people. Harlan Ellison was an ass, but that is calling water wet.

for sure, but I rather be stuck wearing one of them all day, than that thick TWOK uniform

I've been under TV lights. Yes, very hot, I get your point. But actors wear what they are handed. Arctic parka to blue paint (Mystique)

I have one question. Does it have pockets?

Yeah they either turned the Enterprise's thermostat way down between the light, thin TMP outfits and the heavy WoK ones, or the crew spent a lot of time sweating.

Do you have a link for this Fact Trek? I would like to read it.

Robert
It'll be in an upcoming piece we're working on about the fine line between rip-off and homage. But as @Harvey posted here years ago:

Actually, de Forest Research caught the similarities. This is what they said in their August 11, 1967 research report (note that this report indicates that Desilu was notified of the similarities earlier, when the story was purchased):

It’s a green-gold ball of fluff, a tribble. – The premise of a small, featureless, fluffy, purring animal, friendly and loving, that reproduces rapidly when fed, and nearly engulfs a space ship, is the major plot complication of the last one third of Robert A. Heinlein’s novel, The Rolling Stones, published by Scribner’s in 1952. Use of this plot line which parallels the story line of the novel could lead to legal complications. Mr. Heinlein might claim that his property was rendered unsaleable to television and motion pictures because the story line had appeared on Star Trek. The similarities between these two stories were pointed out when the story outline was first presented. It might be advisable to contact Mr. Heinlein and negotiate purchase of property.
Heinlein's authorized bio states that he'd just been through a plagiarism lawsuit and he caved on "Tribbles" only because he figured it was a one-time thing and would be forgotten. He considered the ongoing merchandising of them to a betrayal of the gentleman's agreement he made with Coon. (LINK)

And I looked through his papers and saw the script they sent him.

So, I'm not the only one who thought they looked like mechanics!
I thought they looked like astronauts

They were. And the NX-01 was also designed as a blend of modern 21st century technology aesthetics and the TOS look. ENT was one big evolutionary midpoint between our present day and the world of the 2250s and 2260s. They wanted to evoke a feeling of current space exploration in addition to showing hints of the Trek world seen in TOS.

As much as I love how the NX-01 bridge looks (especially in season 3, with the mood lighting), those LCD screens have dated badly. They look so small and bulky in 2021. And once I knew the "buttons" were pads from a stove top lid (exactly the ones I had back then, in fact) I cannot unsee that.

Not as badly as the TV screens I'm noticing for the first time in my TNG/DS9 rewatch.
