What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Beverly was fine. Pulaski annoyed me mostly because she was so dismissive of Data. But, her relationship with Worf had potential.

Pulaski's dismissiveness of Data annoyed me too, but she DID overcome those notions fairly quickly. I think she got better developed in the short time she was on board compared to Crusher.
I just preferred her over Beverly and got the sense she was a more... competent doctor.
Beverly Crusher (at least to me) came off annoying.

And good recall on Pulaski/Worf relationship... that definitely had potential (which sadly went nowhere because Mcfadden came back).

It would have been interesting if Pulaski was kept on board WITH Crusher.
It may have made Crusher more interesting.

This was before it became overdone ;) :D

It makes sense that the alliance between Federation and Klingon empire might spark fangirl-ism on both sides when it came to appreciation of some parts of both organisations.

Though, apart from Tom Paris and Jadzia being interested in Klingon cultural practices (because they both had Klingon/half klingon love interests) I can't recall it as being 'overdone'.
Though DS9 DID lay the Klingons on thick because of the war and Feds/Klingons primarily being long standing allies.

True...

Jadzia's Klingon fetish happened before her relationship with Worf...and it pretty much was the foundation of their relationship because Worf's only interest is in Klingon things.

And Tom and Jadzia aren't the only ones...

And as to "fangirlism on both sides" we never really met Klingons who were fans of human culture.

I don't think humans were treated in the same fashion as Klingons among humans. I might be misrembering but I though the Doctor's holographic son was hanging out with Klingons too and they were a bad influence type cliché.

I might be wrong though.

Klingons weren't exactly portrayed as overtly enthusiastic about any other culture other than their own... but we've also had a very limited interaction with Klingons beyond their warrior caste.
Still, we do know that Klingons can and did fall in love with humans and/or other species (and vice verse).

You're not wrong... but Torres also programmed the holodeck with those modifications... and it stands to reason she used Klingon as a 'bad influence' for several reasons:
She didn't have high regard for Klingon culture or rituals as her mother forced those things on her (hence the source of her misgivings with her mother and possibly Klingon culture at large).
It wasn't until much later on that Torres looked closer into Klingon culture and gained a bit of understanding of it (Season 6).

Yeah but that's the problem I have with the Klingons in Star Trek, they are allowed to be all about their own culture and talk disdainful about human (or other alien) culture and are allowed to have their religion and their after life and their raw meat and living worm food.
But the humans/Federation always is portrayed as falling head over heels for them and over-joyed or at least forced to follow each and every single of their rituals and customs.
And Torres in some episodes was even peer-pressured by her non-Klingon shipmates to engage with Klingon culture.

I really can't stand Pulaski. Just a McCoy rip-off, with the writers trying to recreate the Bones/Spock dynamic.....and failing.

Crusher was a more original character with more depth and background, and McFadden is a decent actress. But she got handed the short stick in terms of decent charater focus and her development fell through the cracks.

I just wish Crusher and Picard would've gotten married and stayed married instead of divorcing like the "All Good Things" future.

Picard would've made a great Step-Father to Wesley Crusher.

Honestly, I never got the whole Crusher/Picard romantic aspect. It seemed like it came out of nowhere and was mostly forced. They seemed ok as friends having breakfast etc.
Picard had better chemistry with Vash and especially that commander (what's her name).

Come to think of it Picard had better chemistry with his cup of Earl Gray (hot) compared with Beverly Crusher.

Ugh Vash! Honestly I thought she was both a terrible love interest and an annoying character.

I thought Picard and Dr.Crusher could have made an interesting couple...if they had ever followed through with the scenario.
To me it seemed the writers were just reluctant to make it happen due to the whole "Picard was always in love with the wife of his best friend and might be the father of her child" idea they had established in season 1.

Riker also had an interest in Klingon culture (“One...or both?” ;)) - I thought Riker in general was pretty open minded/interested in alien cultures, which I thought was a nice touch.

I actually like Vash - a great foil for Picard. She reminds me of Q in some ways. Crusher was good but underserved. More dancing doctor, please! And for the love of God, let the woman fence!

Here’s another controversial opinion: while the “storyline” was underdeveloped and served better as a backdrop than a coherent arc, many of those Temporal Cold War episodes are actually good. (Cold Front, Shockwave 1, Future Tense, Storm Front 1&2).

Another character I don't care for, I guess I just don't like that "archetype"

That's what I mean when I she was underused. She seems very interesting when they let her show her passion for dance or let her be geeky/adorakable about science/medicine.

Agreed. Riker has some dialogue in "Angel One" that really emphasizes this.

Agree 100%
