Watching Leftovers.
Unless a year from now people are saying excellent things about it this is probably the last time I watch Leftovers.
What is the point of this show? It's clearly focusing more on the fallout than the disappearance so we can probably assume that it's never going to be explained. This show is about how people would react if 2% of the population spontaneously disappeared. Only they hop forward three years immediately and contend that people just kinda went on pretending it never happened, then three years later stuff blew up. No, things would blow up immediately, who are you kidding? If anything three years is how long it would take for adjustment to happen. They skipped over the entire interesting part of the story. And they spend like twenty minutes of the pilot at some teenage sex party that doesn't go anyplace, and none of the characters are compelling. The weird cult of silent people in white robes just seems silly. There's this one scene at the start where somebody randomly shoots a dog for no apparent reason and the music playing never fits the scene. This is a very, very stupid show.
And they just had a scene that referred to Pope Benedict. Really, they couldn't change the footage that's appearing on a television in a bar in one scene? When was this even shot? did HBO have this show in reserve for like a year then decide to order a full season when they couldn't find anything else to replace Veep and Silicon Valley? JFC.
