Watched Anatomy of a Fall.
These kinds of crime movies make me uncomfortable because they paint the justice system as a form of competitive storytelling rather than an evidence based search for the truth.
It's a really interesting movie. A woman's husband is found dead and the two viable theories are either she killed him or he committed suicide. They never show us what really happened, but the narrative makes it seem like she is innocent. The physical evidence is a wash. The prosecution focuses its argument on their relationship and audio clips where the problems in their relationship all come out. She cheated on him, they had fights. She ends up being acquitted because their son adds some testimony that heavily supports the narrative that he was suicidal. But was it true, or did he just decide he believed that version and told the story that would save his Mom?
