Watched some DS9 tonight along with some Family Feud.
I started Ozark. I thought it was going to be more of a Breaking Bad ripoff but I like how much depth the town has.
I’m in episode 4. Ruth Lamgmore feels more like a main character than the main characters.
She is a main character to me. More so than even the wife. Frankly the rest of the characters can get murdered by the Mexicans and I'd be fine with just watching her.
She steals money and threatens to kill people and is somehow less morally objectionable than the main character.
You sympathize with her so much more, probably because the main character grew up with privilege, had a nice job and family, and got involved with a cartel purely out of greed. She grew up with nothing and sees an opportunity to have what he had.
Yes, exactly. She is trying to get her cousin to college and a better life. She does things that are awful but you understand why. The main character took the job he knew was awful for the money. Sure he has a family to support, but still. He did it for greed and in a way boredom I think. At no point do they even seriously think about just going with the FBI into witness protection, they have outs and don't take them.
She has no way out and is trying the best she can to support her family. Plus in the end what she does she does to help people who are there for her. If the rest of the characters were as well written the show would be a mega hit.
I'm not sure testifying against a Mexican drug cartel is an actual out. But, he already had a nice comfortable life with the money from his legitimate job.
In Ozark, one thing I’m not clear on. The guy who is shot in a holdup in episode 5. Is that a flash forward to his future, or was he fantasizing a noble suicide cause he’s gay in a place that’s intolerant?
