What are you reading?

But if you want a pet book that isn't so sad pick up any of Herriots. Those are great and generally you just get to laugh at a country vet.

The BBC TV adaptations are pretty good, too.

Anyway, I'm currently re-reading a few things: Lord of the Rings, Simon Schama's History of Britain and browsing Nigella Lawson's How to Eat. I just love her imaginative use of language. She advises turning your freezer into "a Golgotha" of chicken carcasses. Wonderful!

I'm reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels (I can read one in a couple of hours...fluff, but fun fluff) and I just started Stephen King's new books of short stories, and I have Passchendaele on the go at school during lunch :)

It's been a while since we've had one of these. Right now I'm reading "The Blind Assassin" by Margaret Atwood. It's been a while since I've read anything by her and I'm really enjoying it.

It's also been a while since I've used "it's been a while" multiple times in one post. :p

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine "Unity" :)

One of my favorite of the series so far. S.D. Perry is an amazing writer.

I've got them on the Netflix list.

Those people have to be so confused by us, all the TV shows we request are from the BBC.

You confuse me already; might as well confuse Netflix too. :shifty: ;)

(excellent call on Jeeves & Wooster, BTW. One of my own favourites. If you're a Holmes fan, try the Jeremy Brett versions.)

I'd read a few Jeeves & Wooster books before looking into it. My husband just married me because I have excellent taste when it comes to movies.

That, and you were the only person with the antidote for the death virus you infected him with... :D

Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry are just about perfect casting.

You people and your viruses, for the last time I don't try to kill people with viruses.

Bacteria and endotoxins are so much more entertaining to watch.

I like that you take pleasure in your murdering. It's good to have a hobby, esp. now you're married and have someone right there on site to practice on.

This sounds great.
Maybe I'll pick up those Jeeves books my sister left me when she moved to America.

For British comedy in the fantasy genre, I like Terry Pratchett. Good Omens is my favourite so far. And the recurrent character of DEATH in every book...

I am currently reading a book by contemporary Mexican author Laura Esquivel, Como Agua Para Chocolate, "Like Water for Chocolate". There's a good enough movie adaptation from the early 90's. It's a bestseller there.
It took me half the book to stop checking words in the Spanish-French dictionary, so I've been at it for a while.

Later on, I'll catch up on the last books by the regretted Tony Hillerman. Not the greatest literature (I prefer Louise Erdrich - what style! what inspiration! or Jim Harrison) but his Navajo police series are a great read. It's hard to put them down.

Casey, great choice with The Brothers Karamazov. One of my top 5. And Dostoevski doesn't suffer much from the translation. They say he's all subject over style and that it's even a better idea to read him in translation!
Good for us, because who knows Russian?
