Re: What Are You Eating/Drinking Right Now? I have tried cracked pepper on most things, LOL.. but meatloaf is a peculiarly american dish that rarely gets made or eaten here. I love a black layer of cracked pepper on a sandwich, especially if there is mayonnaise.. This is a great sandwhich: two slices of rye, thinly sliced tomatoes piled thickly, mayonnaise and a half inch of cracked pepper. The watery freshness of the tomato is a great contrast with the pepper, stands out more with no cheese to modify the effect.

Re: What Are You Eating/Drinking Right Now? I'm not much of a rye bread fan...but I could make it work with all-grain or wheat slices. Most sandwiches taste better when you use all-grain or wheat bread.
Re: What Are You Eating/Drinking Right Now? That tomato sandwich is one of the few that tastes good with white bread IMHO. It's almost like some decadent dessert.. soft white bread, juicy tomato, creamy mayo and then the bite of cracked pepper. Rye bread is the best bread in the universe though, so it's sad you don't like it. Perhaps you have just not had good rye bread.
Re: What Are You Eating/Drinking Right Now? Possibly. I've tried different brands of rye over the years but for some reason I just haven't taken a shine to it. Same with pumpernickel. Maybe it's the kind of rye I've been eating. Jewish rye probably came the closest to being my favorite if I had one. I once had a tunafish sandwich on Jewish rye and rather enjoyed it but haven't bought any Jewish rye in the past few years. I'm spoiled on wheat and grain breads as well as pitas.
Re: What Are You Eating/Drinking Right Now? I had two tuna fish sandwiches smothered in cracked pepper on Jewish rye with caraway seeds every day for lunch at school for at least 5 years. I probably have mercury poisoning.
