Don't know what 'Salad Cream' is, but a simple way to explain what remoulade is, is comparing it to finely chopped pickles -in a neutral mayonnaise.I looked Remoulade up in google images..is it at all like what the British call salad cream? (which is disgusting imho). I do like chips with mayo, the US or Canadian kind as Aus mayo is closer to salad cream and tastes like food acid.

That's not a bad description. A co-worker of mine once described it as "cocktail sauce mixed with mayo."

Over here, it's a popular accompaniment to shrimp and some other seafood dishes. Think ketchup mixed with horseradish and occasionally lemon juice or Worcestershire sauce.
