What Are The Names Of Your Kids? Or What Would You Name Them?

When I was younger I would quite frequently have dreams in which I had a daughter. Her name was Kertzyg. :)

My son's name is Joseph, after his great-grandfather and my daughter's name is Kaitlyn. I also have a step-daughter named Melissa and a step-son named Brandon.

My cousin is a nurse at the delivery ward of a hospital in Tampa, so sees some fun ones occasionally. Her most favorite recent one was a woman who named her son Tra' Shcan. Claimed it was pronounced Tre Shawn, but sorry, that's how you spell trash can. Poor kid never had a chance!

My daughter's called Helen Rose.

I don't see why you're all picking on Flamenco for Sylar. All names were made up originally and about 50% of the ones I've seen on this thread so far are recent creations.

It's refreshing to see that most of the choices so far are traditional and pleasant-sounding names, nothing too "trendy."

I agree. The majority of the names on this thread sound timeless and/or flow well with the middle names included. I liked trendy names with crazy spellings when I was a teen and kept lists every few years of my favorites. I look back now and cringe. :)

When I grew up a bit, I settled on Evelyn Michelle for a girl-- Evelyn after my grandmother, and Michelle after my best friend (their middle names). I'd call her Evie so she'd have a youthful nickname. My husband and I have no kids yet and aren't sure if we ever will, however.

If it appears on somebody's birth certificate, then it's a name by definition, right?
Technically yes, for sure. I would however think that, while every conceivable mixture of letters can be used as a personal name, proper names should have a meaning, a tradition, and a bit of history behind them. There is a reason why most people don't call their kids xXx.

Because it's fun? ;) But actually, I like Sylar. It's rather cool. I just find it weird to call your kid after a tv character. My son Spock and my daughter Padme agree with me. :p

Lucifer, Satanik and Attila. The world is not ready for my kids, that's why I don't plan on having one :shifty:
(BTW, I've met a Satanik and a Attila in real life).

We have two kids: This One and That One. Or sometimes The Boy and The Girl.

Their birth certificates say Taylor and Liam.

We say "he" and "she" without ever clarifying that we are talking about the kids. And the other always immediately understands that it IS the kids we are bringing up.

My ex once enthused that "Vehemently" would make a wonderful name for a child of any gender, with any surname.

I'm so charmed by the thought of it that it's probably a very good idea I'm not planning on having kids.

:guffaw:

Oh ours have other names. For instance they may become Your Son or Your Daughter.

Heh, oh yeah! We do that all the time.

Ours are Andrew and Bailey. We got both names from WKRP in Cinn.

Probably name them after something from Star Trek. Besides, they could easily pass as acceptable names today.

Hmmm.... "Tribble"? :guffaw:

The Today Show had a segment about baby names this morning- Twilight names are very popular right now. Bella for girls, Edward and Cullen for boys. No problem with Bella or Edward, good names...but Cullen just says I LOVE TWILIGHT SO MUCH I NAMED MY SON CULLEN!!!!!

Then I looked at my list on page one of this thread- all the girl names I picked are book names or T.V. character names! Olivia- Det. Benson on SVU- though I've always loved that name; Charlotte- a character in Pride and Prejudice, also Jane Eyre author Charlotte Bronte; Isobel- a character in M.C. Beaton's Hamish Macbeth series (but it's just another variation of Isabella); and Briony- from Atonement (but again, I love the name!). So I really shouldn't talk...

ETA- yeah, I know Cullen is a perfectly good Gaelic name. But still, it's not very common and just screams "Twilight". :p

Perhaps they're a bit common, but some mean something to me and the others I just like:)

My kids are named Fnig, Pwuntz, and Xmimmig. If we finally have a boy some day instead of yet another girl, we'll name him Tammy.

My sister says, "I'd totally name my kid Tribble. Then I could say, 'I'm having a lot of trouble with Tribble.'"

We are having a very silly day at our house.

Tanner St. John

Is the St John going to be pronounce as it looks or as 'Sinjun' (which is the usual way it is pronounced)?

I didn't mention my sons' middle names. They are

Daniel Gregory Leigh - both Lee and Leigh are acceptable spellings for the boys name in Australia. I believe in the USA Leigh is reserved for girls.

Adam Richard John

Marcus James

each of the boys had one of their father's names (he had three). His first name was Francis, which I didn't want to give as a name so in was the third son that was lumbered with it (Marcus Francis James). However when Marcus decided to legally change his surname to my maiden name he legally dropped the Francis as well.
