What Are Little Girls Made Of -- Beautiful

Gassy Man

Just watched a remastered version -- this episode has some of the best lighting and cinematography of any Star Trek episode. It is one of a bunch of episodes that more or less gets its plot from Forbidden Planet, with the bonus being that it is just great to look at . . . even with good ol' penis rock.

Agreed! One of my favorites. :)

I especially like the walk with Dr. Brown after Kirk and Chapel's arrival. They did a great job of making a rather small cave set seem much longer than it really was though dissolves and the continued conversation, and the slight angle to the floor gave a nice sense of walking farther and farther underground

Sherry is still my all-time favorite Trek girl. Such a beauty.

I'll second that.

But, I'd be remiss in mentioning one of my all time favorite guest stars, Ted Cassidy. Even though he's padded up, he's huge and the way he throws Kirk like a rag doll is great. I love his scene when he realizes how he can get rid of Korby,
"That was the equation! (seizes Kirk) Existence! Survival must cancel out programming."
I love it because Kirk got what he wanted but I don't think he planned him squeezing him like that, kind of an uh oh moment.

Mr. Spock, I'm sick of your half-breed interference, do you hear?

Thanks for the post. It prompted me to watch the episode again tonight. It does look gorgeous. This episode is also a great example of how they used various colored gels to enhance the backgrounds - lots of purple, green, etc. They also used the effect in many first season ship shots, but it was particularly psychedelic in the "underground" scenes here.

I wonder if the cinematographer was encouraged to do that because it was an early color show, and they wanted it to really look brilliant.

Another thing to watch for in this episode is all the eye contact between all the characters, there's really a lot going on in this one!

Watch the eyes...

I have always thought the little scene with Kirk and Ruk near the end is pretty amazing - you can almost see Ruk's thought processes as Kirk is reactivating his memories. "yes..the old ones.."

I just rewatched this one over the weekend. Maybe as I get older, I appreciate TOS even more than I did in the past and I have seen these episodes lots of time but yeah this was a great episode.

Cassidy's "dark g*d" type voice... Ooh! It gives me shivvers!

If what I've read is accurate, he had a job as a radio station announcer in Dallas, Texas...November 22, 1963. Think about that for a moment. Can you imagine that "commanding" voice broadcasting that fateful news?

Sincerely,

Bill

I've always loved this episode.

Sherry Jackson is ALSO my all time favorite Trek girl.

But you know what I've noticed in recent years? I think Christine has her charm too. She's got a nice smile.

I love Captain Kirk in this too.

"Kiss me."

That look on his face after he forcefully kisses Sherry Jackson should be the poster-boy for male chauvinist. Mwahahahaha.

You know what's weird?

Every time I talk about "my favorite Trek girl", I always feel like I'm cheating on Uhura.

Uhura was a smokin' hot babe. It's like whenever I talk about a Trek hottie, there's a sort of unwritten phrase at the end or beginning of my sentence. For example, "Aside from Uhura, I love Sherry Jackson." Or "Yeoman Barrows was THE babe...barring Uhura of course."

Nichols is definitely high up on the list.
