I was listening to a podcast today from caped wonder about Superman IV and all the cut scenes from the movie and how the movie would make more sense with a lot of those scenes reinserted. Since this seems to be becoming ever more popular during this time of covid with the Snyder Justice League cut, Godfather III, Rocky IV etc
What else can we milk? What new cut do you want to see?

    So I'd be interested in

Ghostbusters II (deleted scenes and alternate scenes exist)
Batman Forever (lots cut from this)
    Superman IV (as above)
Star Trek V (I think the least likely to happen)
Superman Returns (add the return to Krypton sequence)
Star Wars Attack of the Clones (extended lightsaber battle with Dooku)
Joker (sounds like half of the movie was reshot and the original ending had Joker killing Bruce Wayne - don't know if that ending was shot though)

Edit: Adding some more as we go along
    Solo
    Rogue One
    Star Trek: Nemesis
    Star Trek The Motion Picture
    Star Trek Generations
    Logan's Run
    Superman II (done better)
    Superman IV
Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker (rumored reshoots)
    The Golden Compass
    Event Horizon
    Dogma
    The Incredible Hulk

I understand SOLO and ROGUE ONE both had extensive reshoots. I'd like to see the original versions.

TMP needs the Blade Runner / Close Encounters treatment, with a release that has all the different versions of it on disk.

I always thought Star Trek: Nemesis would benefit from a re-edit and re-insertion of some of the deleted materials as well.

I'd love to see Logan's Run with some of the missing footage that you can access as audio clips (I assume from the work print)?

Nice pick! Yeah, more scenes of Riker's wedding, Picard and Data discussing life, those quieter moments may have added a little more depth to the film.

Star Trek Generations--edited so that Kirk lives. It actually isn't that hard and there are clips on Youtube. Given that Kirk's death was never mentioned in canon again, it would not be an issue there either.

Superman II--a well edited, well scored, combination cut.

I'd love to see more Rocky changes and new scenes for more than just Rocky IV. I can't wait for that director's cut. I wonder how much there is, and maybe they add the Bill Conti music.

I'd like the ST:TMP director's edition in HD and an extended version of Generations in HD.

At the very least the alternate opening before the Enterprise B,the alternate scene of Kirk getting shot in the back, Data talking with Crusher in sickbay etc.

Definitely the effects need to be redone to match the cinematic look of the movie and not be obvious CGI.

I have a few original cuts I wish were available actually but I would be curious to see a more Schumacher Batman cut or Ayers Suicide Squad.

While I might enjoy the extra opening scenes, Kirk getting shot in the back would be even worse. The problem with Generations is that Kirk dies at all. I still consider this to be the most colossal mistake in Star Trek history, compounded by the refusal to reverse it and let Shatner have one more story. The Shatner and Crucible books aside, Generations could be EASILY edited so that Kirk doesn't die. Easily. It meant nothing to the story, and Soran could be stopped without Kirk dying. You actually could combine the two death scenes into one where Kirk survives. Soran still loses.

Hell, maybe even do a completely animated version in ALL CGI. We can get Reeve in a better adventure.

Demolition Man, starring Sly Stallone and Sandra Bullock in one of her early roles. And a blond haired Wesley Snipes.

The original cut had Stallone's character actually finding the daughter he often mentioned but never saw. There was a scene in the cut movie where Stallone is protecting an unnamed female Scrap. That was his kid, now older than him thanks to cryogenics. She was cut out for pacing, you were supposed to assume that she was dead, I guess.

I'd kind of like to see the version of Disney's 'Brave' before they (ironically) bottled out and made the whole thing way safer and less interesting.
Not sure I'd really credit either of those as an alternate cut. I mean 'Rogue One' is still the film Gareth Edwards wanted to make, it just took a little work in post production to get it into a shape everyone was happy with and the end result was a good movie. Removing early character developing scenes and adding in an extra step in the final action sequences where they all have to run across the beach to get to the tower probably wouldn't have amounted to a substantially positive impact. You know, like every movie ever that has a halfway competent editor on the crew...

As for 'Solo'...Look: the problem wasn't that the original directors had this singular creative vision for their movie and it was cruelly taken away from them by the evil corporate overlords. The movie we saw was the one they agreed to make when they were hired. The problem was that they wouldn't stick to that script (you know, the one they'd signed on for) then ignored when LF asked them to knock it off with the improv.

Imagine for a second that you hire a contractor to build a conservatory onto your house. Plans are drafted, quotes are given, contracts are signed and work begins...then half way through said contractor decides they don't want to build a conservatory after all and instead of windows starts to install garage doors, with the intent of paving over your garden to make way for a new driveway that you don't need or want. That contractor would be fired SO FAST, right?

This is what happened. 'Solo' wasn't their pitch, wasn't their script. They were hired to make a thing, decided to try and hijack said thing and do something else because reasons and were shocked when the people signing all the checks showed them the door.

So no, I can't say I'd agree that their version would be interesting. Ron Howard did and astonishingly good job with what he was given, in the circumstances it was presented and in the time they had to finish it.

Not just pacing, but structural reasons too. As you say, she was only mentioned in passing prior to this, never shown in the pre-cryo prologue so dumping her into a scene right at the start of the third act doesn't really serve any narrative or character purpose for the protagonist. That character herself serves no inherent purpose either, she's just *there*. It'd be different if she'd at least turned out to be Edgar Friendly's boss or something. But no; manly man can only have wife/daughter/female partner and/or potential girlfriend if they make him feel protective and motivate him to "go fight bad guy now!"

The Golden Compass with the book's original ending restored. They even filmed it and was going to move it to the beginning of The Subtle Knife...but then it was never filmed.

I believe there are a number of scenes from The Incredible Hulk that were left on the cutting floor. I remember desperately wanting to see the extended cut of that film during those early MCU years.

He mentions his daughter on multiple occasions in the movie, probably because erasing all references to her would have been too difficult (just as they couldn't have wiped the brief scene where he was protecting her). But she would not have appeared out of thin air.

Also, her presence would have made the end scene less disturbing. Spartan wasn't supposed to just grab Lenina randomly and start sucking face with her... in the book, his daughter kissed him on the cheek. Lenina observed this and didn't get why a light peck was such a big deal, so Spartan took that as permission to kiss her for real.

It's like two lines of dialogue that could easily have been cut if they wanted. And I've never heard of any cut scenes from the start of the movie, so the point stands.

The lines were in the middle of longer scenes. If cutting them had been feasible, I think they would have done it, deleted Katie Spartan from existence entirely. Maybe the "protecting the unknown woman" scene as well.

I didn't come to debate the wisdom or motive, just to say I'd've preferred the uncut version.

For me it's Event Horizon. A longer cut of the movie once existed that was even more grim than the theatrical cut but the footage was stored in a salt mine of all places and has degraded beyond repair apparently.

Man I'd love to have seen that movie.
