What actors do you think would be good as the rest of the OG crew?

AmandaSmith

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
I don't know if this has been asked yet. I tried to find a similar post and didn't see anything. If I've missed it please point it out! Which actors do you think will be good candidates for the original crew? I honestly don't know many actors outside marvel and other super hero shows. Would you have picked the ones that have currently been picked? New Uhura has pleasely surprised me and while I didn't like Spock in Discovery I love him in SNW. I don't think there has been a bad Spock yet.

Jess Bush Chapel could have been a whole new character. People thought Padme dieing of a broken heart was bad in the star wars prequels, well I wonder how the reaction will be when we see this Chapel turn into the mousy shy easy to erase Chapel from TOS. Who does not even become part of the core 7 characters. I do think this may be hard but Jess Bush may have the acting chops to pull it off.

Paul Wesley does not have the charm or stage presence as Shatner. This has been discussed to ages.

Ethan Peck's Spock is okay but unlike Zachary Quinto, he does not come off as a natural actor. You can tell Peck is acting in the role. However I think Peck may be getting a pass because he is the most sexualised Spock and he is quite handsome, However Quinto too was handsome but he could act and show more range.

Ceeling Gooding, I believe should have been a whole new character. I have read some of the actress interviews and it is clear the show wanted to give her liberty to play the character as she pleased, though this may have served better as a new character. we could also have used some less TOS Character overall.

Mount is an Okay as Pike, but he lacks the commanding presence of TOS Pike. Bruce Greenwood is the best actor to play Pike.

We wiill have to wait for Bones, Sulu, Checkov and Scotty.

The bar I will say is high since Karl Urban was so good as Bones and John Cho was a bad ass Sulu. I know this is a streaming show and they get z list actors for this kind of shows, however I do hope when they cast legacy characters like Bones or Sulu, they cast actors that have some resemblance to the older actors as well as the acting chops to go with it.

Mount does have the presence to play a very badass Pike though. He did it on AMC's Hell on Wheels. Hunter played him like a closed-off military Captain. Mount plays him like a 'friendly' dad type. It comes down to the writing.

I agree that Celia and Jess should have played new characters. However, if SNW becomes it's own thing, I'm good with their alternate takes on Uhura and Chapel.

Scotty-Sean Biggerstaff
Sulu- Manny Jacinto
McCoy-Benjamin Walker
Rand- The character needs a total overhaul
Chekov- too young to be on crew

Martin Compston as Scotty for Season 3

Acceptable because people change especially due to trauma. There is a host of literature to back up this idea so I have no issue with it.

See above.

Lord, that was a lot of unnecessary complaints.

None of the women on this show should be the same as they were in 1966. TOS did a lot of great, revolutionary stuff. But its sexist tropes are a part of its period, and should be left behind. There's no reason to write Nurse Chapel as she was in the 60s.

Paul Wesley and Ethan Peck do perfectly well.

Why would you come into a thread about new actors just to complain about the ones already cast? Goodness.

The show seems pretty content doing its own thing, so it seems unlikely we'll see anyone else. Maybe Bones if they keep Kirk around for a while.

I feel like they're taking the Smallville approach - introduce the TOS cast here and there over the course of the series, but we won't see them all gathered together til the finale

Wow! Haven't seen him since he played Ewan on Monarch of the Glen! He could well indeed play Scotty now!

The new Chekov needs to resemble a member of a band that today's 12 year olds listens and have a poster of which they kiss good night every night before bed.

Then none of us will have heard of him.
except for those of us who have tweens or work with tweens these days.

I used to have 12 yeaf old girls writing One Direction on their faces when I was still teaching.
