What about the boots?

PKTrekGirl said:rotobotor, please knock off the unsubstantiated accusations immediately. I know you are new here, but I strongly suggest that you go and read the board rules. Because next time you make unsubstantiated accusations such as these, you'll earn yourself a warning for trolling.

Thanks.

And seriously....I really cannot BELIEVE that you guys are getting this worked up over pant leg styles on Trek uniforms.

Let's just all take a step back and relax. I think that we should all try and insert just a wee bit of perspective into this forum, okay?

Seriously.
And now it's pretty well-established how things work here. Nasty, accusatory, slanderous comments about certain folks (me, among them) are allowed to slide... but if I make a joking comment about someone being better off had they paid attention in math class rather than sitting in the back playing with themself... that's unforgivable.

A "friendly" for "trolling?" That was FLAMING. Plain and simple. But since it was against me... well, that's just hunky-dory, huh?

Seems there are two very distinct sets of rules, huh?

At least this is all 100% clear now. And you wonder why I don't just leave it to you and do the "report to mod" every time?

Gotta agree with Cary on this.

'Tis truth, and truthfully spoken.

Let ignorance of such truth, and attendant indignation and mock surprise, commence.

As a long time Trek fan and podcaster I have to agree that they weren't tucked in - mostly. I have to think you could find some shot somewhere of some extra with them tucked in a little. As for the new movie I'd say it's unlikely we will see this style for the most part. The era the movie is set in hasn't really been show before (unless you count Finnigan) and so they are a bit free to do what they want. I'd love to see something like the classic uniforms but I think they are going with a different look.

No...there is only ONE set of rules, Cary, and you know that god damn well.

However, we DO give people (especially NEW people) a few friendlies before we start passing out warnings to them. Sorta like the many, many, MANY friendlies YOU received before you started getting warnings for your nasty and hostile remarks that are made on a regular basis around here.

You really need to lose this persecution complex. It's not doing you one damn bit of good. That giant chip on your shoulder is dragging down this entire forum, and it really needs to stop.

Now, if you want to make any more nasty accusations at ME (how ironic is THAT, huh? Pot/kettle and all that), please take it to PM.

Thanks.

Right... nasty accusations is how you describe an accurate, factual assessment. Got it.

Lengthy PM to follow.

I for one approve of the shouting.

Looks like this'll be a fun year if we get one of these OMG TEH SKY NOT TEH SKY UR STOOPID posters about twice a week 'till X-Mas.

Cary is right, and I didn't have to look at the pictures to know that.

Back in the very early 90s they had a big Star Trek exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Got to sit in the Captain's chair and all that.

They had the original costumes on display and I remember being very surprised to see that the pants not only were cut off and not tucked in, but they had some kind of gold thread in them that shimmered.

Now, the movie pants I believe were tucked in. But I'm not sure.

How about letting it go?

Are we really having a shouting match about boots??

No. We are having a shouting match about pant leg styles. JESUS, man - keep up! :p

Boy, am I ever glad my uniform pants had stirrup straps! Not always comfortable for long walks and long periods of standing, but they never came untucked. <cheesy grin>
Mind if I ask what uniform this was? I was a US Army officer on active duty during the late 80s and early 90s... had some "interesting times" in Panama, Kuwait, and a few other things that are less well-known. ;)

The 7th Infantry Division had "Trouser Blousers" as part of our official uniform. Tucking in mean you were out of uniform... so after my Officer Basic Course, I never had the OPTION of "tucking."

I preferred the bloused style better anyway... as stated elsewhere in this thread, it was FAR more comfortable. I still have a big bag full of those olive-drab trouser-blousers, too! ;)

The more modern US Army uniform is a bit different than what I wore... the whole "Digital BDU" style still gets to me a bit... ;) but for the most part I think it's an improvement (and thank God, no more sewing on of patches! Ain't Velcro great?!?) I have noticed a lot of folks wearing their BDU trousers down well over their boots... haven't seen ANY "tucked" versions... and also haven't seen any indication of "trouser blousers" being used. I'm wondering if the pant legs are elastic now.

In reference to a comment from above, as well... I think I was fairly clear that I'll be quite happy if the old-style boots are "updated" to make them more practical. And if they happen to have "baggy-bloused and tucked" instead of the old-style "ring cuff," I won't mind. I just really, really want them to be BLACK (trousers and boots!).

To keep the truth being spoken, Cary's not having a shouting match about boots.

He's actually not shouting about anything.

Rather, he's pointing out the hypocrisy of the so-called "moderation" which goes on here.

A person clearly flamed him, yet was only given a light tap on the hand.

Yet Cary himself has received far worse for far lesser offenses.

As have I, as have those not on the "We're The Shit!" list here.

Ban, warn, condemn us for it, but I'll be damned if I'll not call a bullshit foul on a double-standard when I see it.

WOW !

Cue Nancy....

These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do, one these day these boots are gonna walk all over you....

Wow, what an entertaining thread. I feel for you Cary. Some times you just can't win. that rotorbotor is simply amazing. I've known people who can't admit when thier wrong, but to be able to completely alter ones perception of reality, wow!! I just hope the wardrobe department at least gets the Boot dimensions right, or this place is going to blow it's entire bandwidth for a year.

Superman, if you have a problem with the moderation in here, please contact Bonz or Spiff, who are the people who can actually do something about it.

But these constant off-topic editorial remarks about the moderation in here are moving you toward a warning for spamming.

And since this thread is completely off-track now, I'm locking it.
