What About McCoy?

They need Connor Trinneer in the role.

No, they really don't. Trinneer was the best part of Enterprise, but I don't buy him in the McCoy role.

It's a tricky bit of casting, I'm not surprised that we haven't seen an announcement yet.

My vote is for Josh Holloway. If they cut and darken his hair, and get rid if the facial hair, I think he would be perfect. We know from 'Lost' that he already has the ability to play McCoy's cantankerous but likable personality, and can do so with a genuine-sounding subtle southern accent.

However, I think 'Lost' will be filming the same time Star Trek is filming...it probably can't work.

Trineer would be great as McCoy. Hell, if this were a TOS TV series he'd be great as Kirk.

Obviously that ain't happening.

According to trekmovie.com, Karl Urban was not being considered as the villain in this flick (as other sites reported) but for another role. McCoy seems like a possibility, there.

So if we have McCoy and not Dr Piper the film has to be set after Where no man has gone before?

No, Dr. Piper's existence will just be ignored.

As it should be.

Sinise is too old playing McCoy :( and i am not sure about Josh Holloway. Only actor i can come up with is Damian Lewis and Jason Lee for McCoy.

I was just being glib... both times. Relax...
Just because I critiqued your wording does not mean I am not relaxed... I am so relaxed I am barely awake....Maybe you need to relax yourself? ;)

Who knows, maybe they are after Sinise but negotiations are ongoing. Maybe that's why we haven't heard too much about the casting.

But what about the age factor? He's 53 years-old. In comparison, Zachary Quinto is 30. Matt Damon is 37, and was deemed too old by J.J. Abrams. Chris Pine is 27. I think Sinise is simply too old, unfortunately. :(
That's definitely a valid point; but to be honest, he really doesn't look like he's 53 (at least in my opinion). I think he could pass for 35-40.

Agreed.

Even before Trek XI was announced as a prequel, I was hoping Sinise would get a shot to play McCoy -- somehow, someway. I mean, honestly... I think it's the role he was born to play.

Ever seen the lead singer of Welsh Rockers - The Manic Street Preachers? He probably can't act or do a Southern U.S. accent but I've always thought he looks the part.

www.trekmovie.com reports that Urban has been offered the part of McCoy.

He hasn't been signed, and may have schedule conflicts.

From what I've seen of him, he'd be a pretty good McCoy - and yeah, Sinise is too old for the part.

Whoever plays McCoy should be around 35-40, a decade or so older than Kirk. How old is Urban and can he do an understated Southern accent?
