What a terrible finale! *Spoilers*

I think its almost Enterprise's revenge that it exists intact in both realities, the prime and the alternate.

YES. I posted a thread like that when the movie came out. Eating my gagh cold here, enjoying every wiggle.

As to TATV.. well I seem to always like characters, episodes that I didn't care for at first better the next time round to the point of going from not being able to stand something (Vic Fontaine as an example) to actually loving that same thing. So when I watched ENT through a third time I was ready to find a lot of good in TATV and to become a TATV apologist. I'm just geared that way when it comes to Trek. But. I. Hated. It. What an utter piece of crap. The ONLY thing I liked about it was the look that Phlox gives Archer as Trip enters the chamber.. I think you can really see a "I hope this trick works" expression which fits in perfectly with TGTMD. So clear is this look (to me) that if they brought back ENT I think they could have Trip live on that look alone.

Next time I watch it through again (coming up soon I think..) I will be ending it at Terra Prime. I will enjoy that and say my farewells to a wonderful show on a high note.

I'm glad I never saw TATV when it aired. I can't imagine how horrible that would have been, to be all geared up for the final and see that crap.

I feel you. Back in autumn '05, Season 4 aired daily (mon-fri) on Croatian TV (HRT), meaning I've seen TATV a day after Terra Prime. For a moment there, it almost made me regret being an ENT fan. I remember thinking: "I've been faithful to this show for four God damn years, just to have it shoved up my ass like this?" I can only imagine how the people who saw it immediately after Terra Prime must have felt...

Thank God I already read about how bad it was right here on TBBS, months prior to that.

I'm not sure I've remembered this correctly, but one of the posters back then had a signature line saying something like: "F#ck you, Rick Berman! F#ck you, Brannon Braga - the killers of Star Trek!" And I remember thinking: "Jesus, talk about over-reacting! Come on!" Boy, was I wrong...

As I 've stated elsewhere in the STE threads, I have my issues with it. But, it does have some nice moments. Was it a proper sendoff? No. Too much Riker-Troi, an insufficient 'big event' to fit the final view of my much-loved crew...could I do better?Maybe not. But, I wasn't charged with doing all that...

Closest thing I am at all aware of is what Mach 5 and I were back-and-forth about, the fine STE novel, 'The Good That Men Do', which has an old-Tripin the early portion visiting the monument outside San Fran to the Fleet losses I believe during the Romulan War-which this book serves as a lead-in-with Larry Marvick, who was shown in TOS' ''Is There In Truth....'' and Scotty ref's him as one of those responsible for her creation...

I was never even a fan of Enterprise, but even I, upon stumbling on the finale, thought they really slapped ENT in the face, both the show, its fans, and its legacy (which I dont think much of but whatever)

That's actually the prologue/epilogue to 'Last Full Measure'... the rest of the book is set during the Xindi season. But I did like that novel, that part especially... even though it basically does give the game away too early, setting the character's future in stone as much as the finale did. Such was the fan upset at the character's poorly written demise onscreen, I guess everybody working on the Pocket Books line considered it a good enough trade-off. Setting out their manifesto for future stories and how they weren't going to totally accept the finale without adjustment.

That part of the Last Full Measure has stuck with me though. The fact there's a monument to the fallen, those who died in the Xindi probe attack. Further names added - those who died during the Enterprise's mission into the Expanse and those from Yosemite research station. The grim fact the structure went on to record those involved with the Romulan conflict also... its original purpose adapting to yet another stumbling block for Humankind's mission to the stars.

Trip apparently being friends with one of those working on the future Enterprise NCC-1701 being constructed high above them in orbit. Running into George Kirk and his two sons. Pure fanwank to some but how else would a prequel work, without attempting reach out to something it's set before? I dunno, all the references on the show always had greater meaning for me. If someone not familar with minutiae from the Original Series, had to do some research... that's no bad thing. Too much consideration is given to explaining every little damn detail these days. As if it's a crime to paint on a larger canvas. Star Trek had a glorious universe with a rich backstory, that really should confuse beginners, as I'm sure it did me. There was nothing I wanted to see cast aside forever because it was irrelevent or inconvienent to providing an introduction. It's a shame the current filmmakers felt the need to do what they did... But I'm drifting off into my own world of hurt here, which has little or nothing to do with the topic.

 THAT Larry Marvick! That's something I did not know. Just watched that TOS ep the other night. Never looked up the name when reading the book though I do remember it struck me as an odd name (probably because it's a 60's name, not many people being named Larry these days).

Thanks for this tidbit!

Yesh, seems to me, Bermen and Braga were more concerned for showing what they did before instead of trying to make Ent end well.

Another topic I'd like to see stickied is the Season Five thread... there's lots of images and story ideas to provide conversation for it

I'd like to see those images.
