Star Trek: The Next Generation is my vote
I mean think about it, they are obviously going in order of the TV series, first Star Trek, and then Star Trek: TNG, and of course next will be Star Trek: DS9, then Star Trek: Voyager, and finally Enterprise which will be renamed Star Trek: Enterprise and we complete the circle all over again! This will happen again, and again, and again, and again.....

I think this is a good sign. The Paramount execs saw a rough cut of the film. and were very impressed. Impressed enough to move it to a May release from December. They feel and believe they have got a hit on their hands.
Giving Paramount's track record lately of major hits. This is a great sign. If this Trek film is as good as all the people who have seen the film and footage say it is. This will translate to a monster smash hit sequel. I'm talking SW box-office numbers or beyond.

I thought it was pushed back due to production reasons....

The film's supposedly been done and in the can for a month now, and that is including the effects guys taking their time to get every detail correct and some rumored pickups/re shoots that were done after principle wrapped.
Yeah, it could have been done in time for its original December release.

Just to early for talking about a sequel imo, the movie is about to come out in a movie. I hope this movie is successful but it doesn't mean it will or won't be successful; there was alot of hype behind watchman and it flopped. I guess they are got a few test audiences and the movie is getting high ratings for Paramount to automatic green light a script this fast before the film is released. First time to my knowledge for a trek film

I think paramount was worried that the writers strike would hamper JJ's creativity on the set and pushed it back so he could slow down and be able to pick up/re shoot anything he thought up during the strike...
And since they were given the time, the production chose not to rush things...
That is my understanding as well. I certainly hope they would make use of the extra time.
According to trekmovie.com the working title of the sequel is "Supreme Court On Board". The story is about members of the Supreme Court going on a wild adventure aboard Enterprise.

I'd go with the ear worms. Just think of the havoc the Trek XI denizens could wreak across the forum with a mod under their control. Enemies could be eliminated permanently with a single key stroke.
And no due process either.

Cliffhanger? No. I bet good money the film ends with the 5-year mission beginning and Kirk delivering the "space, the final frontier" monologue... Any sequel will be set during that mission.
As for these news: Great! It shows the studio's confidence in the film. But to be the voice of reason here, let's remember Nemesis. I think the studio probably expected some better numbers from that film too, and they didn't come in. So I'd say any fan who is interested in having new Star Trek every once in a while for another decade or so had better get his ass down to a theater near him/her on or shortly after May 8. I wouldn't trust a general audience alone to lift the flick to blockbuster numbers.
I remain cautious as to the box-office success of this.
