I didn't like the season one cliffhanger. I suppose if you make a fictional story about the President, he'll have to deal with EVERYTHING that every president has ever dealt with, sort of like how a high school TV show will have a kid for every event possible.

But the poor setup of the whole thing made people who are there to make sure stuff like that doesn't happen look like a bunch of idiots more than anything else.

I love the drama of the season 1 cliffhanger but I agree that the concept is quite cliche and something I knew would have to be a plot at some point. The one thing that really gets to me though is

how absolutely stupid a plan it was for the bad guys to attempt to kill Charlie at the time when he's the most protected he could possibly be (with the president)! If they really wanted to pop him, why not do it as he's getting home from work? The answer of course is purely drama issues. But the whole plan is just so stupid and illogical when you think about it.

I knew I'd kick myself months ago because of this, but there was a time that the seasons were all on sale for like $15 each, for like two weeks in a row. I didn't pick up any of them at the time (couldn't afford the extra expense) but now I wish I had. Oh well.

Yep, Best Buy had them for $15, I bought season 2-6 for my grandma.

I just barrow them all the time, literally all the time.

I only own season one. I so want to collect the rest of the seasons though. Being from Washington DC and considering the very large part politics has played in my life, this series was always near and dear to me. If only the price would come down just a little bit.

I highly recommend picking up the boxset if you can. I got the boxset even though I already owned the first season. Along with a cool episode guide and the script of "Pilot" (along with a cool forward from Sorkin), set is designed with folders for each season that slide nicely into the box. It's very cool.

Seasons 2-7 are. The first season isn't. But I'm not exactly sure what format everything was originally shot in/aired in, so I'm uncertain if that's a permanent case, or something that can be rectified on a future release.

I don't think season one is available in widescreen. The IMDB certainly suggests it wasn't produced that way.

My wife bought me the boxed set a year ago because it was el cheapo at Best Buy. I finally got around to starting it in late July. Finished the series this afternoon.

Two things in S7 caused me to cry:

Spoiler: 1.

Leo's death

and

Spoiler: 2.

When Bartlet leaves office and Santos takes office.

Both are just so emotional moments in the final season.
