West Wing Complete Boxset

It's a great show, but what is god on it is a matter of opinion. I found Season 4 to be the weakest, particularly after the election, and season five was great.

I recommend a blind buy, it is a damn good show.

Season five was a mess and the show lost it's direction and didn't find it until the season finale, which was a terrible terrible storyline.

And Sorkin did drugs and NBC was pissed because he would be writing the episodes when they were filming. So they agreed to part ways, biggest mistake in TV history.

Neither have I. I don't think there's a single outright bad episode of The West Wing (okay, maybe "Access"), rather the later episodes are just weaker than the earlier seasons (as I said before). Well, some people have a special ire for "The Long Goodbye," but that was a season 4 episode! ;)

I agree completely. There are occasional moments that piss me off (CJ and Nancy fighting in the corridor was one that spring to mind right now: 'they're killing...the women...NANCY,' says CJ with tears in her eyes. I hated that scene), but on the whole there are no bad episodes. It's a fucking incredible show from start to finish, and at the end of the day I loved every second of it.

The first four seasons are brilliant, and I'd wager that the last two season are just as good, especially with the election storyline. Season five is a mixed bag, clearly struggling without Sorkin at the helm (although the Christmas episode from that year and The Supremes are both highly memorable).

I loved Shutdown, too.

"Go Get 'Em, Mr. President"

Yeah, that was good. Actually, there's quite a few episodes that are great that season. It just wasn't like the Sorkin years--where every single episode was great.

There are good stand alones, but for the most part the only real storyline was "The Republicans are evil!!!" That part pissed me off, and I hate the republicans,.... and the democrats. :)

I watched the 7 seasons of the West Wing back to back on DVD, and prior to that I'd never seen any of the episodes on TV and didn't really know a lot about the behind-the-scenes stuff. For instance, I didn't know that Sorkin left after season 4. That said, I didn't notice any decline in quality between seasons 4 and 5 - though in retrospect, and knowing what I know now, I can see there are some definite differences. But yeah, eps like Shutdown and The Supremes were as good as anything Sorkin ever did.

Actually, on my first run through, I thought season 6 was by far the weakest link. In retrospect though, my appreciation of it has grown, and there were certain things that were very well handled - the China summit, for instance. Still, if I had to rank the seasons, I'd put season 6 at the bottom.

^ I bought Studio 60 when it came out on DVD last month. Made it to Nevada Day Pt.1 before I gave up.

Can anyone give me a reason to continue? Like, does it actually become watchable soon? ;)

^ I personally liked it from the beginning. Sure, it had problems but for some reason I still liked it.

No Studio 60 is trash. I watched the whole run and it only got worse by the end. The Iraq storyline was dreadful.

I think my problem is that I went into it expecting The West Wing season 8. With that expectation, everything's gonna be a letdown

I loved it, thought overall it was very enjoyable. I think I liked it more than 30 Rock.
You know, I really wanted to like 30 Rock. Both Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey are totally awesome, but the show just doesn't work for me for some reason. The fact that I can't stand Tracy Morgan might have something to do with it.

I like 30 Rock, but at times I find it to farcical, where as Studio 60 did the same thing, more seriously, but still with humour.

I love Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, from beginning to end. The only thing I don't like about it is Harriet.
