How do you know they didn't do their homework. No One here has seen the film. So no one really knows what they're talking about.

I'm basing my comment on the descriptions of JJ Abrams presenting several scenes in Europe, and describing the context they came in, that combined with the relative ages of the actors tells me they are play footloose and fancy free with their birth dates.
You seem to really want to make this into a fight, when I am just laying out what I personally have a problem with. I could very well be wrong, everything could make sense and be explained when the movie comes out-- but right now it isn't looking that way.
If you're opposed to pre-supposition and discussion, until the movie comes out, then why even bother posting?

I'm just pointing out that people are taking things people have said and misquoting and reinterpreting to amplify their preconceptions and fears of this film. No one ever said this film is a reboot. You go find that quote.
In a recent interview on Trekmovie.com, it is stated that there's a canon reason why we are seeing what we are seeing. The fact that there is old Spock interacting with these other characters would seem to indicate that this is something that is happening outside of linear time, so why assume that everything is exactly what it appears to be?
I'm not against pre-supposition and discussion, but the manic hysteria, name calling and utterly unreasonable stupidity is what I can do without.
So let me get this straight. MattJC gets angry over the movie and Roberto Orci talks to him. Rick Sternbach says he doesn't like the new Enterprise and gets shown more pictures. I've been doing it the wrong way this whole time! I need to stop sucking up and get pissy!

Abrams implied in an interview that he KNOWS they said in Balance of Terror that the Federation does not know what Romulans look like, and if this film shows a pre-TOS Kirk knowingly meeting Romulans that there will be an in-universe canonical explanation for it.

All I wanted was a simple answer regarding Empires article about the scenes Abrams showed in Europe.
I wanted to know if they took the bar scene/scene with Kirk observing the construction of the Enterprise out of context and it was in fact NOT taking place in Iowa.
I, also, promised I wouldn't post the info he would give me on this forum. He must have gotten anooyed with me when I did that.

Ooooh. He ignored a nobody after already giving you more time than was deserved. Instead of being happy he acknowledged you at all (and even proffered information that he was not obligated to)--that wasn't enough. By the way, how many times did you ask him for a "simple answer"? And how long did you wait for him to respond before pestering him more than once?
Why don't you return him (and us) the favour and ignore the film (and discussions of it, while you're at it)? Should lead to happy faces all around, I should think.

If Empire is the only print source that says the bar scene or the Enterprise construction yards take place in Iowa, I'd take that as highly conjectural evidence. I highly doubt either scene does, especially the construction yard stuff. Even if it did, it could be something that could be fixed in Orci's canon-following explanation. I think that statement above all others should be what overrides anything in your conversation with him. All he's asking for is a little faith and an open mind.
