Hey tomalak301, it's been a while since I browsed these pages, so I didn't realize you'd posted a reply. Seems you know what's going on. Just to leave a very slight spoiler out of sight, Spoiler:
I think Kaylee is only a little different, as she was always clawing after Simon, and she mentioned at least in "Heart of Gold" how she'd like a little sexual healingI'd say River is the most different in that she's so good in kicking ass, though it's not much of a stretch. She displayed an uncanny aim in a gunshooting scene, but I don't remember her actually kicking ass
. I think the characters show more of the "darker" appeal that Joss Whedon said Fox wanted him to steer away from. But it's still hilarous fun to watch!
Other than Kaylee, once everyone got into thier roles after the first 20 minutes, I really didn't see much of a difference. Maybe the characters changed between the last episode I saw and the unaired episodes you talked about but what I really liked is that these characters were really close to thier portrayal to the series. Maybe Mal was a bit darker, but he has always been the "leader" willing to do what it takes to get paid. Spoiler:
If I remember correctly, River and Simon have always been an hinderence to that goal.
