More liberal in some ways, quite a bit more conservative in others.

I agree. In some ways, they are very conservative. Particularly in business matters. But in other ways, they are much more progressive than the U.S.

Hope you guys are all doing okay! I've been working tons of hours...but I had a few minutes here so I thought I'd come and spa...erm...I mean, post in the forum. :p

So did anyone look at the movie times today and see a lack of times for Serenity, or was it just me? The two main theaters I go to only play the movie 5 times each day this weekend. Given the "so-called" popularity and the fact that it's getting rave reviews (My paper, which I was waiting for because they criticzised Firefly gave it the best review possible), I thought it would be getting more. I was thinking about seeing it today, but because of lack of times, I might not be able to. :(

^Well, my closest theater is only showing it 4 times a day, which I suppose equals one screen. The same goes with every other theater in my area. If it were opening in the summer it would probably have more showings; it seems like that happens with a lot of summer movies.

Anyway, I've decided to give Serenity a try this afternoon. I've tried watching Firefly reruns, but couldn't quite get into the show. So why am I giving the movie a shot? There are so few space actioners these days, and nothing else in theaters really appeals to me in the least(I've already seen Corpse Bride, so that's out). I plan to make Serenity a double feature this afternoon with A History of Violence. Hopefully I'll end up liking both! :)

I too have doubts about the show, but the reason I want to see Serenity is because I do like Sci-fi and it's been getting good reviews. It's also being compared to Blade Runner which is interesting. I think it will be a good 2 hours, but I think I am deciding to see the movie with a friend on Monday after school.

Well, I guess I'll end up seeing Serenity another day. The theater I went to didn't have showtimes conducive to my double feature plans. If I saw Serenity first I would have had to wait 2 hours before the next available HoV screening, and the wait turned out to be the same if I saw HoV first. I really didn't have anything to do in the area for that amount of time, so I decided to just see HoV today. I'll work Serenity in sometime soon, though. :)

Serenity only got one screen at the theatre where I saw it too. Quite a few people at the first time though. I thought that meant it would bode well for the weekend, but I guess the box office showed otherwise (2nd behind Flightplan). I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

I'll have to catch History of Violence too. Sounds intriguing.

I went to see it today, and I think I really want to watch the show again. It was a really cool movie.

Welcome back man! I hope you get a chance to check out the shows. Let us know what you think. The movie definitely hits you more as someone who knows these characters from the show, but how'd you like it without as much background?

Hi everyone. I'm new to these parts but I've been lurking around for the longest time so I thought, now that I'm officially a member, I better stop by this fine establishment and say hi to the nice people.

Montresor, how did you like A Hisory of Violence?
I love Cronenberg and I really want to see A History of Violence. Due to my schedule I could only see one movie this weekend and I just had to see Serenity first but I think I can see A History of Violence sometime next week. By the looks of the trailer it seems like Cronenberg is mellowing out a bit.

Oh, and Serenity was awesome.

To be on the safe side, I'm editing this post so I can hide the spoilers. I apologize for not doing it before.

Spoiler:
I've actually seen the show, and for some reason, at first the characters seemed off in the movie. Kaylee seemed off the entire time. I thought she was this fun loving Teenager type girl, but in the movie she is kind of portrayed as an annoying bimbo. The rest seemed to get it back in gear afterward. Still, I think I saw all the episodes that fox aired up to that main one when they break into an alliance compound so I didn't see the first episode. Still, I knew about River and she was one cool SOB.

Because I havn't seen the show since the Fox days, I guess I was going into with "no backround." Still, Joss did a great job bringing me up to speed with what was going on and I followed it clearly the whole way. I think during halloween week, I will be renting and watching Firefly though. I havn't seen the show in a long time.

I wouldn't say he's mellowing out. There are many quite violent and gory moments in the film, though unlike a lot of his films, the surreality is kept to a bare minimum (for Cronenberg, at least). :)

I'd have to say I liked it, though I probably won't be counting the days until I can own it on DVD. The performances were great (Viggo and Ed Harris have never creeped me out this much before :)). The plot is fairly unremarkable, but since this is largely a character study, it's not really a problem.

I'm glad I saw the movie, though it remains to be seen if it's one of those movies I'll want to see again.

So far it's been a pleasure to moderate the forum. You've given me almost nothing to do. ;)

Vash should be back in a day or two and I'll be around until then.

We have a moderator in this forum, that's news to me. ;)

Seriously, thanks for holding down the fort until Vash returns. ;)

Keep up the good work, Lord Garth

Hey tomalak301, it's been a while since I browsed these pages, so I didn't realize you'd posted a reply. Seems you know what's going on. Just to leave a very slight spoiler out of sight, Spoiler:
I think Kaylee is only a little different, as she was always clawing after Simon, and she mentioned at least in "Heart of Gold" how she'd like a little sexual healing ;) I'd say River is the most different in that she's so good in kicking ass, though it's not much of a stretch. She displayed an uncanny aim in a gunshooting scene, but I don't remember her actually kicking ass
. I think the characters show more of the "darker" appeal that Joss Whedon said Fox wanted him to steer away from. But it's still hilarous fun to watch!

I wanna see History of Violence. I have that, The Gospel and Domino to catch.
