Wow, the thread lives! Must be because I haven't posted here in ages.
But now that Vash is away it might be safe to pop in here and spread some anti-Orlando propaganda again.

Honestly, are we any more "rabid" than Trekkies/Trekkers? Heck, Niners? We're simply showing support for a show that we really enjoyed and that we felt was gone too soon. You get a lot of that (rabid fan support) around here at this BBS. Firefly/Serenity are the latest rave probably because it's the next "big event" concerning the sci-fi genre. I'm sure it'll be forgotten or well downplayed months after the movie is out and something else will capture fans' energy.
I'm sure if you read the Sci-Fi/Fantasy board, you'll get plenty of reasons why fans think Firefly is so great. You'll hear answers like richly developed characters, engaging stories, funny, mysterious, unique sci-fi/western combo, fun to watch, etc. At least those are my reasons in a nutshell. But I'm not trying to convince you. As someone who's seen the show, you've formed a knowledgeable opinion. It may be sacrilege, but I'm not all that impressed with TOS; and if it weren't for the movies, Kirk/Spock/McCoy and the others wouldn't mean much to me accept that they happened to come first. Different strokes for different folks.
I don't expect the movie to be epic or make blockbuster money. But I will expect to enjoy it and enjoy the fact that Firefly had a second chance.
Good point, even though I do think the movie will be talked about, at least on this board, for a long time to come. The show still is.
I have been to that forum and that was why I asked the question. Some of the posts I've read there are really hardcore, probably moreso than the trek fanbase, and this was only a show with 13 episodes.

I hope the fans enjoy it. I remember when Farscape was cancelled and I was heart broken when I heard the news. I'm glad it got a second chance, and it got the conclusion that it deserved. While I'm not a fan of Firefly, the show and it's fans should get that same opportunity.

Good to see everyone. BigFoot, I feel for ya on Serenity. I'm growing impatient just waiting for the end of September! Well, hopefully the DVD will only be a few months off, and then you can (I assume) get to view it. Or just read all the spoilers from the last few months and you'll probably know the flick inside & out!
And I've decided I'm not gonna read any spoilers about the movie until I see it.So it would be useful if no one posted spoilers about it in here.

I for one just absolutely love the show and I'm really looking forward to the movie. IMO the show had the best first season of any show I've ever seen (with the possible exception being the new BSG) and it had so much potential. So yeah, I was sad that the show was cancelled and I was thrilled when I heard they'll be making a movie. I've been looking forward to it ever since and I cannot wait to see it.
True, but I think that's mainly because of the buzz around the movie being made & soon to be released. It's gotten a lot of fans hyped because there's been such a strong desire to see more and we know it's happening against the odds. I'm sure there'll still be talk about Serenity & Firefly for years to come, just not at the fervent level it is now. And IMHO, a show with just 13 eps that commands this type of devotion must've done something right

I think it's the potential we saw in it for more. The proved in one portion of a season how creative it is and how much more it was ready to be before cancellation. Bad publicity on Fox's part had a lot to do with it's low ratings, but the show was solid. It's like your feelings about Farscape; we want the chance for proper development and conclusion to this series. Thanks for understanding. We won't be as rabid after while... hopefully

I see Jammer and Lord Garth have been on the job though, so the forum is in good hands!

Hello and props to all my DS9 buddies…I’m another one looking forward to the Serenity movie. I recently got the complete Firefly DVD ($40) set so it all makes sense now. I guess it’s a little hard to embrace at first…so for me it’s like my DS9 experience.

Seriously, good to see you still come in from time to time Vash. It's mostly been Lord Garth that's been running the place and he's done a great job. Of course we are always good, so he doesn't have to work very hard.
Anyway, after watching the premiere this week, I decided to get into Arrested Development and rented Disc 1. I got it in the mail today and watched the extended pilot and the next two episodes. In 3 episodes alone, I can see why this series is so good. It's funny, and intelligently written. Pity it's not being watched by a few million more people though. It sounds like this is going to be the last season, and I'm just getting into the first.

Paid $7.00 for a glass of coke the other day though. And it wasn't even a full can.
Japan is *really* expensive.

Ouch! That’s pricey…maybe that’s why everyone’s so thin over there.
I see the per diem rates for Toyko City are $134 just for meals…Holy Cow! That’s over 3x what I’m getting for Toms River NJ. One thing about the rat bastards I work for…they pay me the flat per diem rates (tax free) without any receipts required so I make out well.

If I lived in Japan I'd have no problem staying healthy...I took Japanese when I was in college and I plan on visiting there before the end of the decade. When going I'll make sure to bring enough Coke with me to last the trip.
