Stop thinking so binary. There aren't only 2 ways to make movies, there's a range. And within that range, you can be entertaining or you can be not entertaining. People aren't saying be more like Marvel. They're simply saying they want entertainment that entertains. Challenge the status quo. Be original. Just do it better than Snyder does it. Becaise, my opinion, he paints a pretty picture but has no idea what's underneath.

"The Incredible Hulk" and "The Winter Soldier" seemed to adhere to the Snyder formula.

It's not the formula that's bad, it's how it's applied.

Besides, as a huge Hulk fan, his last movie was less than stellar, so not a good example to use.
 
Aside from emphasizing the humor, which is very much a marketing strategy and is in no way definitively indicative of the film's overall tone and aesthetic, there is very little about Justice League as presented in the trailers that is different from Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad.

The same thing also applies to Wonder Woman, although that's a topic for elsewhere.

Saying that Geoff Johns was brought in to be some sort of "creative overseer" whose job is to dramatically alter the tonal and aesthetic trajectory of the DCEU and impose his will on Zack Snyder - or anyone else - in response to negative critical reaction to MoS, BvS, and SS is contravened by the reality that there is very little difference, tonally and aesthetically, between what we have seen of JL thus far and what's come before, and the fact that it has been repeatedly said by numerous people that each director has been given the freedom to impose their own individual styles onto their films even as they build on the tonal and aesthetic foundation set by what's come before.
 
Yeah these movies still seem to be maintaining the same edgier and grittier style that Snyder introduced with MOS, which I'm glad to see (and even WW still seems to be set in a slightly more realistic world, with her going up against real German soldiers versus the comic booky Hydra soldiers of the first Captain America).

I think the only issue has just been with the writing on some of these movies. As long as they're able to get that sorted out, and can tell better and more interesting stories set in this edgier kind of superhero world, I think they'll be fine. And I definitely get the sense that that is something the studio is paying a LOT more attention to now, which is nice to see.

Which is kind of funny when you think about it, since Marvel traditionally is set in the real world with everybody living in New York (it seems) and other real world cities while DC always had the fictional Central City, Coast City, Star City and Metropolis, for example.

Yes, a good number of people are saying that the DCEU should be more like Marvel. A good number of moviegoers and critics. Whenever the DCEU movies are discussed, the first complaints that I encounter are about how the costumed hero characters do not adhere to the "traditional" ways they have been portrayed. I've noticed this. So have other people. A lot of people are not as broadminded as you claim they are. And I've also noticed that a good number of film goers and critics seemed to prefer those films that have a familiar formula or subject, or have a more conservative narrative. I am not the only one who has discussed this. What I find ironic about all of this is that not all Marvel or DC Comics films fall into this trap . . . like "The Winter Soldier" or "Batman v. Superman". Which is why I consider those two films my top favorite comic book hero movies.

By the way, I disagree with your comments about Synder. I think there is a lot going underneath Synder's films. Probably a lot more than some people are comfortable with. Perhaps that's the real problem with certain moviegoers and critics.
 
I'd like to jump in here with a tiny little request, and the reason behind it:

Is it too much to ask that people spell words correctly, or even use the right word to convey an idea? It's tough for me to take anyone seriously who tries to lay out an argument but misuses or misspells words. Words are important, and have meanings denoted by spelling and context. Please, at least try.

I never got a trophy for winning spelling bees, but I did win the school twice and went to regionals. One I lost because I was unprepared, and the other was due to a dumbass who couldn't pronounce the word and I got confuzzled and messed up. Both times were my fault. Give me a trophy for honesty. :techman:

Really? That's your repsonse? I wasn't commenting on the "quality" of the film. I was commenting on the fact that it ended on an ambiguous note. Good grief.

I have more issues with the writing for the Marvel films - especially in the last two years. But I'm being told everywhere that there is nothing basically wrong with them.
