Watchmen Trailer Online

Maybe one of you fine folks would like to post the EW cover shot. Anyway, I was initially confused by the cover because I didn't recognize Ozymandias on the right. An earlier picture released by the studio showed Ozymandias, but without a mask. Does he wear a mask in the graphic novel? It's been a decade or so since I read the book.
 
Dr. Manhattan looks better in that publicity shot than he did in the trailer (where his face looked oversized and was maybe too deep a blue).

Anyway I'm largely satisfied with the costumes, despite some of them being made to look more contemporary and mainstream (but a athletic young woman wearing a rubber costume that leaves little to the imagination, instead of a boring custard coloured fabric tunic, would be nothing to whinge about for most people).

Ozymandias' movie design has grown on me in the trailer, but I wanted Rome's Kevin McKidd to play him:

Doc Manhattan's undies are from the Vietnam/'70s period. If you watch in the comic, his attire changes with the period being conveyed. In flashbacks of the late '50s/early '60s, he's wearing the chest-covering swimsuit; by the time he's sent to Nam, he's wearing only the briefs; after the Keene Act, he wears clothes in public (such as in the TV interview), but otherwise goes nude. He wears less as he becomes less concerned with humanity.

Heavens, no, not a spoof at all. A highly intelligent deconstruction of the super-hero paradigm is more like it. When it came out, pundits were hailing it as "the death of the super-hero comic", though that proved to be somewhat premature.

He wore a mask when he was an active crimefighter. When he retired in '75, two years before the Keene Act, he also revealed his ID. After that, he was known to sport his costume, such as when performing for charity or working out, but sans mask.

It's pretty much a "how would things really be if superheroes popped up" deal.

It's interesting you mention a spoof-type deal though, because when The Incredibles came out, a number of people noticed a fair number of plot similarities (except done with a comic "fun" bent). Watchmen is more deadly serious.

Why in god's name did Nite Owl have to use Batman's costume? Rorschach looks just about perfect, so long as he has his purple pinstripes. The mask could've been a bit better though, the blacks needed to be black, not grey. Limitations probably though (though he's so CGI happy most of the time, Snyder shouldn't have had a problem though.)

SHIT

I saw this trailer both times I saw TDK and the trailer makes me groan, roll my eyes, and think of really terrible 80s sci-fi thriller/action movies.

Good point - I'd rather forgotten that. Still, I'll be well and truly impressed if we get any shots of the blue dong. Sad that that would be impressive, but in American pictures everyone acts like there's something so rarified about the penis that it will freak people out to see one.
 
Wow, trailer looks great. I never read the comic book but I might buy a couple of issues prior the release date.
 
I cannot phantom how people would think that corny, cheesy trailer "looked great."

Trekker, just stick to one-syllable words wherever possible, OK? Accept your limitations.

Many of us are impressed by the trailer because, for starters, many of the images of characters and events seem extremely faithful to the graphic novel. Lots of people have considered to be Watchmen unfilmable, but right now we're starting to get the feeling that director Zack Snyder has succeeded. We'll really know, of course, when the film is released next March.

I thought the trailer looked great. Much better on the big screen than watching it online. A lot of the folks in my theater had no idea what it was, but liked what they saw.
