Watchmen: The Official Film Companion

The film may deviate from the graphic novel in several ways. But it looks like Watchmen (the film) adheres to the characteristic sluttiness of women's costumes in superhero comics. :o

People can sit through Pirates and don't seem to mind the juxtaposition of 16 and 17th century piracy with sea monsters and magic. ;)

Well there's a difference between Pirates and Watchmen. Pirates is high farce and Watchmen is a quasi-futuristic noir piece. You couldn't take Pirates much more seriously than you'd take a Naked Gun flick. I think they're aiming a little higher with Watchmen and a sudden shift in tone might not work for the movie. Hard to say of course because we'll never see how the original scenario plays out with an audience since they never shot it.
I dont know if I would say it takes place in a quasi-FUTURISTIC setting, I mean it takes place in a alternate 1985:shifty:

True but the 1985 of Watchmen is considerably more advanced than the real 85 was. Dr. Manhattan did advance technology so everybody was driving around in electric cars and air ships were possible as were transporters and giant squids. Sure it's technically not the future but... It's also not the past.

That's true, but all I was saying is that it dosen't take place in the future. It's pretty clear from the novel ( I have read and re-read that book more times then I can remember) that the technology IS very advanced, I mean you would have to be really dumb not to notice.:vulcan: But still it dosent take place in the future/Alternate reallity YES! future NO!

I agree. But that's also why I said quasi-futuristic. Similar to, but not exactly the same as. The technology certainly was futuristic but the setting and the attitudes were pure 1980s.
