That's really sad to do that in any of those three films - I don't understand some people's lack of attention span.
The other possibility would be, of course, that they were bored.
Simply because something is widely agreed upon by big numbers of fans to be "brilliant" doesn't mean that it appeals to everyone. Even Tolkien's books had severe critics, particularly before rip-off paperback editions started appearing in America and kids started reading his stuff stoned.![]()
Fair enough - but if I've laid down a chunk of cash to see a film, I'm in it until the end, no matter how dire.
I guess I can understand it more with Watchmen, despite the fact that I loved it - it's the kind of film that a lot of people might be surprised by when they go to see it, either postively or negatively.
But The Dark Knight - its a Batman film - you know what you're getting.
And The Return of the King was the third part of a single giant story - who wouldn't want to see the end of that? Seems kind of weird to leave twenty minutes before the end of 11 hours of film.
Then again I've got a friend who paid to see Transformers, knowing he couldn't stay to the end because he had somewhere to be - now that makes no sense at all, no matter what you think of the movie.
