Watchmen 2??!?!

I don't get the hate for Brett Ratner. I mean, I realize he's no Spielberg or anything, but he's not trying to be. He is able to pump out fairly entertaining blockbuster, popcorn flicks on a near yearly basis and has no big-headed ego or self-importance about himself.

If only he made good entertaining blockbusters. Rush Hour was fairly decent but the last two were dreck (Rush Hour 2 was passably mediocre but Rush Hour 3 was devoid of any redeemable merits whatsoever). After the Sunset was forgettable, as was The Family Man, and Red Dragon pales in comparison to Michael Mann's far superior Manhunter.

You could almost do a class in film school examining good filmmaking techniques between Manhunter and Red Dragon, especially during the tiger scene (in Manhunter, we the audience are in suspense we Joan Allen's character approaches the tiger, not revealing the tiger until the character has approached it; the same character as played by Emily Watson discovers the tiger after we do, thus making the reveal pointless and lacking any sort of suspense).

The less said about X-Men: The Last Stand, the better. It's a very uneven film that struggles to maintain the tone of Bryan Singer's first two films but merely ends up emulating them. It's on par with Jonathan Mostow's Terminator 3.

James Cameron makes good, entertaining summer blockbusters as does Christopher Nolan, Bryan Singer, and Peter Jackson. Brett Ratner is an industrialist filmmaker with no real sense of creativity or artistry. His films lack any ingenuity or intelligence and are extremely pedestrian.

As for McG...I haven't seen much by him to make a fair assessment.
Honestly, although, that post was a joke (even though Ratner is a truly mediocre filmmaker). McG has done mostly populist movies but I did enjoy Terminator Salvation.
